Hi,

I would like to ask for help regarding the motherboard I'm going to use as a computer server since there is a lot to choose form. Is there one that you can recommend ? I would also need your suggestion for the processor.

Thank to you all.

Mark

If you're gonna ask us to build/list a PC for you or seek advice about a build, please answer all of the following questions:

1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing?
- computer Server ( file server and printer sharing)
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
- 1000$
3) Which country do you live in? If the U.S, please tell us the state and city if possible.
- Doha Qatar
4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc.
- Hard Drive
- Cpu
- Ram
- case
- PSU

5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.
- none (all new )
6) Will you be overclocking?
- no
7) What is the max resolution of your monitor? What size is it?
- 21 inch flat panel
8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
- next week for me to assemble it for our new office
9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? USB 3.0? SATA 6Gb/s? eSATA? Onboard video (as a backup or main GPU)? etc.
- I'll be using Raid 5.
10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? If yes , what OS? Is it 32bit or 64bit?
- I have windows server 2008

3) Which country do you live in? If the U.S, please tell us the state and city if possible.
- Doha Qatar
Are you planning on buying the parts locally or here in the U.S and then have them shipped out to Doha?

- Hard Drive
Is this hard drive for just the OS and applications or do you also need hard drive space to store and share other files?

If the latter, how much storage do you think you'll need?

I'll purchase the parts here and will be the one to assemble it. 3 pc of 1 TB hard drive is that ok for raid 5?

Just to be clear, you're not relying on RAID 5 for backup right? Just data uptime in case of hard drive failure? You actually have a backup solution?

yes Sir. basing on the budget we will only have 2 hdd (1 TB) I guess have to do mirror (raid1). I'll go for data uptime.

Go speak to Dell and HP. You'll get far more appropriate advice than here.

Yeah I'd have to say: Considering this is for a business, contact Dell or HP if they have an office in Dota, Qatar for support.

Assuming that Dell or HP doesn't have an office in the area, I recommend the following:
$210 - Intel Xeon E3-1220 CPU
$208 - Supermicro MBD-X9SCM-F-O INtel C204 mATX Motherboard
$75 - Kingston KVR1333D3E9SK2/8G 2 x 4GB DDR3 1333 RAM
$86 - Hitachi HDS721050CLA362 500GB 7200RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive
$314 - 2 x Samsung Spinpoint F4 HD204UI 2TB 5400 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive
$40 - Antec NEO ECO 520C 520W PSU
$50 - NZXT Source 210 Elite White with Black Front Trim ATX Case
----
Total: $984 plus tax and shipping

Notes:
- This is for a business hence why I went with server grade parts.
- Yes the specs are a bit overkill but they were actually the cheapest best bang for the buck Intel server parts available for their higher chance of reliability.
- That PSU is on sale today. As such, BUY IT TODAY! Its normal price is $68.
- That motherboard has "built-in IPMI 2.0 with virtual media over LAN and KVM-over-LAN support (you can access the BIOS and install the OS from a remote computer, no keyboard, mouse or monitor needed)."
- The 500GB drive is for the OS and applications. I prefer to keep the storage drive/stored data separate from the OS in case of OS failure/corruption or data storage failure/corruption

Thank you so much Danny. I have already Take note of all the Parts. will check the price here in Doha.
