My girlfriend's uncle is having trouble with his copy of Battlefield 3. I researched online and it said that one problem could be is that the file system in the PS3 is corrupt and has to be reset to default settings. Well, I did that and the furthest he ever got to BF3 was selecting the game from the PS Menu. After that the screen is just black. He has exchanged the game 3 different times and not one copy runs on his PS3. So I figured since he had no internet, he never signed up for a PSN ID and never updated his PS3 and maybe that is why. Nope. Just updated to 4.00 and nothing... the disc doesn't even show up on the PS Menu.

The kicker is that EVERY other game works on it. Every game we tested works fine, except for Battlefield 3. I have suggested sending it back to Sony, because I have had the problem with my PS3 to where it didn't read discs either but my PS3 at the time didn't read ANYTHING. But his, DVDs work, CDs work, every PS3 game he has works... just not Battlefield 3. I feel bad suggesting sending it back to Sony because every other game works. It's perplexing. What happens now is that I clean the disc, put it in and the game never comes up on screen, 8 seconds later the system makes the noise as if it's going to eject the disc but it doesn't come out. I press the eject button, and it does come out but then I look at the disc and there is a pronounced line of dust (very thin) from one side of the disc to the other. It doesn't do it with any other game.

What the hell is going on? I've never seen anything like this ever and it is annoying as hell. Any suggestions?:confused::confused: Thanks.

Is it a fat or a slim?

Could be a batch of bad discs, try buying one from as far away as possible; if you bought it from your local store, try the internet...

OR...try buying secondhand, then you're sure that disc works...

OR...borrow/rent a B3 disc, if that works, then you know it was a 'bad batch', if it doesn't, then it's the PS3

try a different hdd, I had the same problem with my slim model when my 320gb hdd croaked
