Avoid...

ive heard the opposite, and i think there are plenty of people out there that would disagree with your opinion

but if you posted evidence of why it is bad that would hold more credibility

most of those silly tower things.
most underrated - xp90/xp90 cu
if you check sites that review and rank hs/f (overclockers.com for example) this cooler is rated higher than the xp120, si120, and the tower things at a lower price, and less chance of them ripping out of your mainboard if they get shifted suddenly. its been around a while, but so have raptors, lian li cases, the who's "live at leeds", '66 corvette, etc

Yeah, thanks for the alert. Too bad I already bought one, and it only lowered temps 10c (idle/load). I guess I should return it.

Too bad most budget AMD chips don't come with that HSF  . I'd like to see more reviews other than the one madshrimps one on the AMD stock HSF. Also, the tests done were with both using the same AMD fan where you can always put a different 92mm one on the XP-90 rather than the 80mm AMD fan.

Too bad you can pick up a stock AMD heatpipe heatsink on ebay for <$20.. they're going up in price now because everyone wants them, few weeks back, i've seen one go for $5..

All i'm saying is.. sure you can strap on a high speed fan on the xp90 and get awesome cooling power, maybe 1-2c even better than xp-120 or si-120(as seen in the Overclockers.com example given by the other guy)... but with that extra noise(78dBA vs. <50dBA) you have to bear with, i'd take any of the 120mm coolers...

i really liked my lapped big typhoon w/ panaflo ..

mal

p.s. but i like my apogee better ;)

Vantec Aeroflow

Have one cooling my Xp2200 Rev A0. Stock temps were 60/67 C load and installing the Aeroflow dropped them to about 52/58 C. However what I got in return were ridculous case vibrations, and undervolting only makes them worse.

I can not believe people stated this thing as being quiet when it came out. If the vantec aeroflow is quiet most dells must be silent.

Edit: Here is the POS in all its glory. Seemed like a good concept at the time, but it did not take Vantec long to scrap it and come out with a Aeroflow 2 which was pretty much a standard HSF.

Stop breaking the forum rules by HOTLINKING images.

oh and the Ninja is an awesome cooler ;)

It's not that - hotlinking is prohibited..Considered stealing bandwidth around these parts..You're supposed to grab the images and up to one of those free pic host sites like imageshack.

XP-90 = outdated, although not overrated.

Scythe= a damn good heatsink, one of the best on market. Has gained alot of hype, but it is well deserved.

owned XP-90, Zalman 7000ALCu, Scythe NINJA

NINJA wins all...
35+ shipping at Jab-Tech, can't beat that....
now if Scythe were to actually release that copper version of the NINJA :D

XP-90 is a bit over-rated, but nice cooler

don't really see the point in this thread

beside thermaltake products.... ;)

Are you high? You're basically saying "I don't like this heatsink and all others should avoid it and even mock those who have it. But I'm not going to tell you why."

Give us a reason as to why you think it's so 'overrated' and people might have a little more respect for you

HAHA I have a TR2-M2 that looks exactly like that on my XP2600 its the most ridicuously loud thing i have ever heard in my life. My panaflo highspeed 92mm at full 12v isnt even close to the noise that thing makes.

No kidding, man! I had one cooling my CPU for two years. Loud beyond all belief. I now have a si-97a, and it does the job much better and quieter!

I noticed a trend of people slagging the XP-90/XP-90c in favor of the Ninja. All I will say is that atleast my XP-90C hasn't melted itself to my motherboard... I do think the XP-90s were initially overrated as well though. I haven't really been that impressed with my XP-90c.

xp90's were wayy overrated, all i heard was that and the tornado made an awesome pair now peeps are saying that xp90's werent all that great

uhm.. thermalright SP-94 was king of the P4 coolers; but with low CFM fan the XP-90 beat it, while providing better compatibility.

the XP-90 was never overrated - you have the take into account that the XP-90 was introduced 1.5 years ago..

Well I'm just saying theres much better heatsinks on the market, such as the Alpha I got which dropped a 55/72 prescott down to a 26/33. Unless your case has good air flow a heatsink w/o a fan such as the scythe just doesn't live up the hype. I have a micro-atx so my case has horrible air flow, so that might be the main contributing factor as to why I think its pure shit...

XP-90 was way overrated, people swore by them and it was the end all solution.... now they have moved onto the sythe and say the xp90 is junk.

i wouldn't say the xp-90 is junk, but i wouldn't put it at the top of the list anymore either.
It seems the new AMD stock heatsink is basically an XP-90, so it is still good, but isn't really a great aftermarket solution.

"Huge tower heatpipe heatsink with loosely spaced fins, one of the biggest in the enthusiast PC cooling market today. It also happens to be just about the best performer we've tested. Can be run w/o a fan in near proximity of case fan(s) but works great with a Nexus 120 fan. Heavy, but much of the weight is in the base"

I think my XP-90 blows. Even with a Panaflo 92M at full speed.

I'm gonna swap it with the stock AMD X2 heatpipe for fun. If that's no good then next is an SI-120 or the Ninja.

Thats what I swapped my xp-90 with. Now my stock amd heatpipe sink cools identical to the xp-90 heh. And is actually quieter. Easier to install as well.

I figured it might but I wanted to try it. XP-90 sucks to install and uninstall. I also think the place I bought the heatsink from on ebay is sending me a second one on accident.

hmm, you cant put a fan on it? they included fan holders so you can do so.

so you think the ninja is pure shit b/c you dont like the fact that it can run fanless? hav you ever used one?

7700 by far :( stupid pos. i should've never bought it. it's very audible at the lowest setting and doesn't even cool as well as the competition (i should reseat the heatsink though)

Yeah me too! What a piece of crap! :D

I don't understand all the hating on the XP-90. It's basically the model for the "newer" AMD stock cooler, and that ridiculous madshrimps article that said that the AMD HSF was equivalent to the XP-90, tested the XP-90 with the AMD 80mm fan instead of a better 92mm fan which the XP-90 should use anyway.

Honestly, for s478, it's great compared to the stock HSF and easy to install. And it is better than the older stock AMD HSF too. Sure, I probably wouldn't buy one for a high end application today, but a year ago when I did buy one it was a pretty good deal. I still use mine today.
