Most efficient case layout for a watercooled system?

So I'm guessing this would be a desktop. My only issue would be covering the NB with the PSU, unless of course you plan on putting a block on that as well.I'm wondering if flipping the PSU over to have the fan pull heat from the chipset might be a better design.

I would imagine the GPUs are going to be watercooled as well. If so, what if you lifted the top of this case up a few inches so you can raise the PSU away from the MoBo, and you put the radiator on the top toward the front (facing up) so you could make the case much smaller width wise. This would extend the height, but would allow more breathing room around the chips on the MoBo by lifting the PSU as well.
 
Despite the pictures orientation I was thinking the rad would be the top.
 
so then this will actually be a tower, and the GPUs will be at the top, and the access panel will be on the right?
 
Here's a new mockup that's further along. The construction is 3/8" aluminum square bar, with 1/4" aluminum square bar from smaller details like the motherboard tray.

I would stick the power supply at the front like the Lian Li A05 does.

The way you have the setup now, it will be a total pain in the ass to work with. You'd essentially have to remove the power supply anytime you had to do anything with the motherboard.

well, if it's CPU is custom loop watercooled, then it will be a pain to do anything wtih the mobo, anyways :p

It's not worse than dealing with a large air cooler.


Plus he's probably going to need a few 90 degree fittings to even get tubing to the CPU with the power supply there.

I have a case with the power supply set up like that. I loath every minute that I have to do any work on it.

That might be more elegant. That space was going to be used for pump + res + hdds etc. I think I could fit HDDs + PSU up front and mount pump\res to the case wall where the PSU is. I'll try that out.

I'm assuming there are PSU pass-through parts so that I can still plug in at the back?

lol, probably because I make my WC loops with almost no slack Then again, I only make them mITX...

There are really only 2 reasons I didn't design this for mitx.

1) only 8 gigs of ram. Ram's so cheap these days I want to slap in 16gb and giggle at my 16 year old self buying 2 gigs for $300.
2) You don't really save much space since the radiator is the determining factor.

Yes there are. The AC power plug PSUs use is a standard connector anyway. You could very easily build your own pass through buying parts from an electronic components site like mouser.
