We’ve told you for a few months now that the Xbox 360 is getting HDMI and 120GB drives, that much we know for sure. We’ve also reported on rumors of new black Xbox 360s. Well, Engadget is saying that all of that is true and it will be bundled together and called the Xbox 360 Elite. Supposedly the new console will have black accessories, run cooler and have a price tag of $479.

We've confirmed with trusted sources that the black Xbox 360 is indeed coming (the image above is of the original 360 dev kit, FYI), and will be dubbed the Xbox 360 Elite. Here's what you need to know about it: The Elite will be limited quantities only; that may be as much or as little as a couple hundred thousand. The case, controller, and Live headset will all be black. It will have all new packaging.

And here I wasted all my cash on the 360 a year after it was out. VGA adapter and stuff. *sigh*

I was hoping I would have been patient enough to get the HDMI love.

Guess not. Takes TWO years. *sigh* Thanks Microsoft you done learned me good.

Eh, I would love to have a Black 360, and I would love to have HDMI, but it's not a huge deal to me. Over the past year and a half, I have enjoyed my 360 very much. Even if a year and a half ago I knew that if I waited I would be able to get those things, I would not have.

I love how everyone complains that they are releasing a new version, like some how it wrecks the on they currently have.

HDMI matters to the small percentile of users whom:
- Have a TV that supports 1080p input
- Are not able to run 1080p via VGA already

If you are already running 1080p via VGA the difference is going to be so minimal only a the anal retentive will be able to pick out a difference.

It is like running an LCD monitor with a VGA cable vs a DVI cable. Going digital is optimal but only side by side looking very close should you see any real difference.

The HD will be an upgradeable option, and the black ones supposidly will be a limited run followed by the white premium units later shipping with the same HDMI and HD updates.

Still plays the same games.

I think that if I can pre-order a black one I will just for the sake of having a collector's edition. I'd just like to have the larger hard drive... HDMI is ok and I'd like to get off of my VGA cable..

I would not suggest the masses start to get this puppy unless they are running out of disk space.

I agree. Dont go out and get one. I want a black one.

Actually i wouldnt mind having another xbox. And a black one would be cool. Plus that 120gm drive may come in handy if that ipTV gets going.

But the HDMI, is not a huge deal to me.

Yeah, I'd love to hear the sony haters now.....

Anyways, I will get this when it comes out, mainly for the HDMI and extra features.

Exactly. Price was a big sticking point but at 480 you're looking at an extra 100GB but no HD Drive of sorts. MS still is not allowing your own Hard drive and is offering the 120GB as an addon for less than 200 so that's 199.99.
I feel more bad for people who bought a 20gb drive for $100 then for people who bought an original Xbox.

That said man I want a black Xbox. I never bought the original, I think it's ugly. The black one is slick. Might wait for the premium to trickle out at $400 and grab one and get it black somehow.

I've been on the fence as to whether or not I should jump in the X360 pool. The overheating issues make me cringe a bit, so if it runs cooler that's a plus. Not to mention the HDMI would be a benefit for my Westy.

They have black cases already which, coincidentally, will be the next thing I buy when my 2nd console goes out of warranty.

HDMI means zilch to me right now anyhow, I ran out and got a HDMI cable for my PS3, got it all hooked up...I can't tell the difference over 1080i. I know there IS a difference (progressive versus interlaced) but I can't SEE it.

HDMI means a lot if you want PCM 5.1/7.1 audio, and also in the future Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD, all staples of Blu-Ray and HD DVD.

That's where the 360's HD DVD add on is castrated, you don't get the full audio capabilities of HD DVD. You get hi def visuals, not sound. I wonder if when this new 360 comes out that Microsoft will allow the output of these audio formats through the HDMI port.

What happend to the edit button? Anyways, Steve, yeah I read that console article the other day, but I don't want to wait one year, and actually two (because my CC extends it one year) to make it black. I want it black that day!
