Monitoring HD Temps?

Is there a way to find out the HD temps on HD's that are connected through a PCI Controller card? I've tried a couple programs that check the temp via SMART... but they can't even detect the HD's on the PCI Controller's. But the HD's on the onboard controller on the mobo are detected. I guess because it thinks the HD's on the PCI Controllers are SCSI?

All of the HD's are WD 8MB's. I'm using a HighPoint RocketRAID100, Promise Ultra100 TX2 and a SIIG ATA 133.

its likely they dont support temperature monitoring at all
my WD400BBs dont, I think the Raptors do? but I also think they are the exception
temperature monitoring done through a controller card is generally done through array management software,
for instance my Promise Array Management suite (PAM Utility w\ a SX6000)
which will give me rudimentary SMART info (as well a array control, status, error logs, alerts, email alerts ect)

SCSI drives had temperature monitoring long before IDE drives

The PCI Controller cards i have have no monitoring software. :sigh:

I guess i'll have to qucikly throw them on the onboard and boot up and see temps?

Just read the help file included with MBM 5, it will walk you through it. Only works if your drives have SMART monitering.

Nope, mine are connected directly to the motherboard.

check out SpeedFan . It should detect the sensors (if there).

i use hdd thermometer to monitor my hard drive temps it works like a charm ( for me at least)

If you are really worried about your HD temps you could just stick your finger in on top of the hard drive (the metal side) and see how warm they are. They should be cool to moderately warm, and if they're really hot you should add a fan near them or something comparable.

I second speedfan.. Very small memory footprint too
