MOH Airborne

After playing the demo, I picked this up the other day and just played a little bit last night. As mentioned above, running does seem to look different than in the demo, more realistic I think.

I'm on the fifth level in the factory and it's hard as hell on normal difficulty. Snipers are kicking my ass.

I'm getting more and more aggrevated with the game. Aside from the random slow downs to 5fps for 10 seconds and back to 40-50+fps I'm noticing that I run up to enemies stand point blank, fire, and miss. I also think the dmg to health ration on enemies is way off. I hit a guy square in the chest with a sniper rifle and he was still going. Sorry, but you'd be dead.

That's really my only argument with the gameplay - and it's something I read in the reveiws too - that sometimes it just doesn't seem like your shot registers. That and weapon damage is a little on the weak side.

I find it kind of awsome yet sad that my best close quarters weapon is the fully upgraded Colt .45

Not a good choice for long range (duh:p) but with the magnum rounds upgrade it's a beast in close combat and usually kills in 2 shots.

2900xt performs so well on Unreal engine.

Why do you think 2900xt perform so well with Unreal engine?

Do you think it has anything to do with xbox 360? Since Gears of War was made with the same engine?

An average of 5 frames higher? On one game, ha.

5 frames higher against a card that costs $100 more. It kicks ass at Bioshock too.

Just finished the game. Honestly, the further it got in the campaign, the less I liked it. It just got really cheesy towards the end. Any sort of realism the game started with was completely lost by the last level. It's a fun shooter, but I like my games a little more gritty. A little more realistic.

All of Ati's recent cards love the engine, includng the x1xx's. May have alot to do with Epic's work on the 360, thus Ati hardware in general.. Or not, who knows.

Did anybody have trouble with the end of the 5th level? I finally gave up for tonight.

Very frustrating. Not exactly sure where to go to blow up the train, and it seems to continually spawn the Super Trooper dudes with the portable MG42 after you kill one. I'll go running across the catwalk and one will shoot me from the ground between a hole in the catwalk plates.

Not cool.

And seriously, how many bulletproof soldiers wielding portable versions of a mounted emplacement machine gun did they really have in WWII? I know it's a game and all but we're getting into Return to Castle Wolfenstein stuff here ;)

I'm not going to ruin this thread, but according to benchmark review from the linked image, the 2900xt lost in bioshock. Also, winning in 1 game by 5fps and losing in 10 others by 20+ is a large difference.

Didn't have trouble with level 5. Level 6 is harder.

I finished it within 1 day in normal difficulty and playing it for the second time on easy. Didn't even die once. HAHA... I need to try hardest difficulty.

Beating out a card that supposedly cost more BTW. 2900xt should be competing with 8800gts with that price range but it beats 8800gts in recent games. No one is denying 8800gtx is the best card but 2900xt does perform relatively well with Unreal engine. It's not going to be 1 game. There are slews of games based on this 1 engine alone.

Bioshock, Stranglehold, Gears of War, Unreal Tournament 3, MOH:Airborne, Rainbow six Vegas and more to come.

I respectfully ask, " Did you go on top of the railroad cars and see the glowing red boxes where you set the charges"? I think there were 3 of these.

I couldn't figure out what to do until I saw the glowing explosive charges.

Blow up the train by getting above it and dropping on top and planting explosives, areas are marked on the radar.

The 2900XT does better in games when theres no AA but tends to do worse in games when AA is turned on, Bioshock seemed to be an exception to this however.

Yeah, do that. I've found it to be really pretty enjoyable. It will give you a run for your money in certain parts on Expert, like this one, for sure :D

Thank you. No. I tried the both sides of the cars first. I did get up on the catwalk, but thats when I got gunned down from Herr Super Aim down there with his portable death cannon.

It's a real bitch to extract yourself from the starting point on Expert. You get flanked on both sides, by the level 7/8 troopers, and if you so much as peek your head out at the big guy, it's loading screen time.

I actually died before the fade to black had finished fading in, thats when i put the controller down and went calmly to bed...

The difference is that when the 2900 wins the game is usually already so smooth for both cards that you won't notice the difference, but when it loses, gaming on it becomes unplayable.

No doubt but it's not giving 10fps increase in this engine. Look above. It's spitting out 30fps more over GTS. You can turn up a resolution at that point or add more eye candy.

The last level of this game is ridiculous.

I don't believe I have the patience required to do this one in, the sewers portion at the end of Mission 6 is breaking my balls. I'm totally sick of fighting Storm Troopers and playing cat and mouse with 2 at a time 8 deep.

I feel like I'm playing wolfenstein.

omg friend, you're so close! Just finish it!!

I used every last grenade I had on those storm troopers.

I snuck around corners in a stealthy manner to get through the very last part.
I had given up on trying to finish the night before as I was frustrated too.
The next morning I went back and did the slow, peek around corner thing- plus used grenades as soy said. It worked and I was smiling as I took screenshots of the ending.
Finish it!:p

The eye candy is already probably maxed in that case. You can't turn up a resolution because most people are already playing at native res. I tend to wonder, where are you getting these graphs from?

From a hardware website that has the only Airborne benchmark. :p You can't deny the truth. 2900xt performs better by land slide compared to 8800gts on Unreal engine with Windows XP.

Man, I must not be the gamer I used to be. I was doing pretty well through the 1st 5 levels, but this last one is ripping me a new one. Everytime I think I'm doing okay I run around a corner and one of those damn zombie guys with the MG42s just rips me in half. I told myself I was gonna atleast finsh up this last level before bed, but I dont think thats gonna happen. Kinda wish I could take the difficulty down to normal without starting all over.

Great game though, alot better than I thought it would be. I hope more FPS games adopt the leaning and sniping system this game uses (I'm playing it on 360 though, not sure how it works on PC since theres no analog controls).

Holy shit. I just finished the damn thing on expert. That last level is ri-damn-diculous. I've never been so relieved to be done with a game in my life. Depending on what part you are at, I might advise serious guerilla tactics. The good thing about the Elites is that they always spawn in the same location.

If you are at the sewers, perseverance is the best advice I can give you. I just had to play it and play it until I finally put my grenades in all the right places enough times to where I didn't have to go face to face with but one of them.

One sneaky thing I did is lean out the doorway before you drop down, and snipe all three snipers and take out one elite that activates way down the hall, but can't shoot you.

wow, that sucked.

Just finished the game. Whoa, shortest game ever. 6 levels. The game is shorter than HL2 - Episode 1!! MoH:A only took me 4 - 5 hours to beat. Really surprisingly good game I must say. The last two levels in particular are superb. Elite soldiers are tough as nails.

Sneaking, puh...

run out, make sure they all group together in a nice tight clump while chasing you, and let them have it with them tank buster grenades, shuts the bastards up. Also make note if its you and 1 of the guys with the portable MG42's then just circle strafe them at about 1-2 feet away, they have a bad turn speed, I did that with the shotty to take a lot of them down.

Finally finished the game. I was in panic mode when going through that last tunnel, cause I thought for sure there was going to be another MG42 guy standing there wating for me.

I finished it today as well, could've been a whole lot better imo. At the very end, lol. I just threw a bunch of grenades and sprinted through.

Anyone know why this game runs like total dog shit with my system? I'm running a C2D E6400 CPU, Vista 64-bit with 4GB RAM and Crossfire X1950 Pro video cards....it seems like I'm only getting like 15-20FPS with that setup at 1950x1200 or at lower resolutions...

I finished the game, but I was really disappointed with its performance

That's 64 bit Vista for you. MOH-Airborne and Call of Jaurez both run smooth as warm butter on my system (X2-6000 & 8800GTS & 2gigs of ram) with XP Pro at 1920x1200. I installed 64bit Vista last week in a dual boot config and both games were basically unplayable on that operating system.

Don't think 64 is the problem. I've got vista 64 on the rig in the sig and the demo, 1900 1080 ran fine for me.

Strangely enough, Bioshock Demo ran pretty good...nearly as smooth as the Xbox360 Demo...ugh...maybe I'll dual boot in the future when I get around to wiping the system out again...

I just beat it on expert, didn't shoot or throw a single grenade through the sewers, just ran like mad.

And it did really remind me of wolfenstein at the end there.

Id like to add that is game is very difficult for me on normal, might be the crappy aiming on the 360 controller. Granted Im played it on the 360 and its just not the same as a mouse. Probably would be easier if I was playing on the pc, but some parts I probably died 30 times before I beat it. Right now, Im droping in on a big crumbled up building with huge guns everywhere so I think I gotta be close to being done.
