I'm talking about when someone quotes me, and then changes the contents of my quote. Usually they put something into their post afterward like "FTFY" but to the casual reader who comes across that quote, it is still setup as if it is something that I actually said, when it very much is not (It still says "Originally Posted by GotNoRice" in the quote, etc).

I am curious if that is against the rules or not.

From my interpretation of the [H]Rules, not really unless that person edits your quote in a way that make it violate rules 1 and 12. Maybe rule #4.

For example, I write "I like dogs" and someone decides to quote and edit that to "I like to eat dogs because I'm Asian". That would be against the rules.

No it's not against the rules. That said, if you report any alterations you believe were inappropriate we'll judge them on a case by case basis. Certainly if someone were being abusive it would fall under the trolling category.

No it's not against the rules. As somebody can simply head back to the quoted post and read your actual wording.

Even so. When I FTFY someone, I tend to make the first F obvious by bolding and colorizing the text.
It's possible that sometimes I forget. But that's my general MO.

Or I fully shenanigans it like this:

AMD's latest offering is like my 90 year old grand-uncle's scrotum. Shriveled, useless, it stinks and nobody in their right mind wants to see it.
