I have a mobo with a Marvell SE9128 for the two SATA III ports.

I have heard that these do not work well, so I am using the standard Intel SATA II ports with my 1156 socket i7 cpu.

I recently bought a fast Force GT 180GB drive, and I am curious how that might work on the Marvell ports?

This post compares the Marvell, ICH10R and a Highpoint RAID controller.

I would give it a try on the Marvell ports as the Force GT will be severely bottlenecked by SATA-II :(

While the sequential reads are better, the ICH10R does better with random reads/writes, despite being SATA-2. I'm pretty sure the general consensus is to stick with the Intel SATA-2 over Marvel or Jmicron even when using a SATA-3 SSD.

Absolutely!
