Modern CRT Performance?

Has there been any development in CRT tech in the 10 years that CRTs production has stopped? Would a 500KHz HSCan be possible?

I thought they stopped after the largest backer of the project, the last Chief Donald Anderson, died on February 2005 at Shadow Moses Island...
