I picked one of these up from a laptop my boss was getting rid of that didn't work (bad mobo). I was wondering if I can use it in a regular s478 mobo. I'm not sure because over at Intel.com I found this:

Which says the package is s478. I picked it out of a list at the previous page that noted some celerons were s478 and some were s479 which I would have considered to be the "mobile" socket.

So what do I have here? Can I use it in a regular Intel s478 board?
 
try it out - I read about these Mobile Celerons - not Celeron M's - and there were some pin mods that you can do to these I believe. I think they were good overclockers...back in the day.
 
Yeah, I found a thread over at Anandtech that was talking about it. I just need to find a cheap board to play with now :D. Anyone have a P4S800-MX they don't want?
 
it will probably default to a 12x multiplier

so you'll need a good 865/875 mobo to crank up the FSB to get a decent amount of speed out of it.

Since its a D1 stepping it will probably hit 3.0-3.4Ghz.

Since it's a mobile Celeron will it default to 12x multi? I found this in another thread.

OH maybe so. I thought it was all mobile chips didn't get recognized properly so went to 12x. But you might be right.... it might be only Mobile P4's
 
Yeah, I just have to find a board for it now...either that or just put it up in the FS/FT.
 
Read up carefully on motherboards, since most don't detect the voltage properly. If this happens:
Best case: you boot once and manually adjust everything in BIOS
Worst case: the BIOS will undervolt from the beginning, so that your Celeron will never boot properly. You're stuck if this happens.

So choose wisely!

Yeah, I've been reading about it. Seems that the Asus P4S800-MX is considered to be the "best," but it's an older board and isn't sold very many places. I found one on ebay I might pick up.
