Told y'all I probably wouldn't be able to resist....sent my wife a text earlier asking if I could use the CC...she said "I dont care" and that's all I needed to hear. :D (had to check first, didn't feel like getting a frying pan to the cranium :p)

Keep in mind the Arrow I bought last week, but now that I have a GOOD backplate for it (instead of the defective one they sent me the first time), it's going on my main/sig rig.

The RMA ASRock x58 + 2nd 920 + 6gb Corsair + TRUE Spirit + 2nd 1366 bolt kit is for [dedicated] -bigadv cruncher #2. CPU only...I'll be using my $13.50 8400GS on that one. ;)

EVGA has roughly 2 days before I crank this puppy on. :D

FOLD ON my [H]orde brothers and sisters!

Outstanding. Glad to see ASRock got that replacement board back to you so quickly. They received mine today.

BTW Zero, your wife called me and said I could use your CC as well. :D

nice!

evga is going to take out Maximum PC in a couple of days...

And they're going to take us out in a matter of months. I fully expect you to have an uber farm up and running next week that will produce 3.5 million PPD to hold them off. Get to it!

Very nice. I think I may end getting that same board for my dedicated Bigadv box.

(had to check first, didn't feel like getting a frying pan to the cranium :p)

Actually, a regular frying pan isn't that bad. Now, if you are talking about a cast iron skillet, that's a totally different story. Those damn things hurt like hell. :(

You married to Princess Peach or something?

You married to Princess Peach or something?

Nah. The worst I can remember a girlfriend doing was a thrown high heel shoe. The cast iron skillet was my mother when I was a kid. I don't think she liked me very much.

I remember when I got smacked around with a where's Waldo book, If I could go back in time I'd snap off a cheesy line like can you seehim now bitch?

Anyways, on topic, I find it easier to ask forgiveness than ask permission

I mentioned the AMD 48-core giveaway to my gf and all the stuff I would have to buy to go along with it. She just shook her head. I haven't done the SO upgrade yet so she isn't inclined to cause grief over me spending money that isn't her's yet.

I checked to see if they shipped me the same board or a different board, and it looks like they shipped me a different board. I have a feeling the board I initially had probably had some major issues to begin with; that's the only explanation I have for a board that died within months while running a stock volts oc.

Yeah I entered that AMD giveaway yesterday as well...didn't really think beforehand about the cost of ram and other things necessary to get it up and running. I almost think winning it would cause more problems, but then again I still want to win it. :)

I still wonder if EVGA's "bucks" convertees are going to be running their farms for 7 more months.
eck13.gif
If they do, great for the science...but if they think they're going to fly past us and we'll disappear, they're mistaken. :p

And they're going to take us out in a matter of months.
It's under 7 months now and it was over 8 months just a couple of days ago. At this rate we're toast when summer hits.

Eh, I don't know about that. Maybe I'm a glass half full person, but considering that gpus run hotter than cpus and EVGA is primarily gpu, heat of gpu + summer heat (unless you live in CA and by that I mean California *or* Canada :D)...I would bet that more than a few of their contributors will be shutting down for the summer. ;)

I would bet that more than a few of their contributors will be shutting down for the summer. ;)
Unfortunately, we also have a few who shut down every summer. :(

Yeah...hopefully they have more though.
I remember seeing Tiger post something recently about shutting down for the summer; guess the rest of us will have to pick up the slack! :)

How much did that run you if you dont mind me asking? I might build a folding only i7 rig so I can use my current i7 for games and such.

+1 for that board for a budget build, just turned in my first bigadv on my dedicated i7 (and just passed nitrobass lol)

Hey Zero, let me know how that 1366 adapter kit works for you on this MB. I bought the exact same kit this past weekend thinking I could use it with my TRUE on the GB x58 MB I bought, but it didn't quite clear some of the parts near the socket, so I couldn't use it. I'm hoping to find another MB that will allow me to mount this thing properly with my next build.

Nice bling you got pictured up there... :D

-$199 i7 920
-$169.99 3x2gb Corsair DDR3 1600 8-8-8-24 1.65vdimm (OCZ 1600 8-8-8-24 1.65vdimm was same price $169...both have $30 rebates...I'm partial to Corsair though, never had OCZ ram but lots of Corsair)
-TRUE Spirit $43.99 (SVC sells for $34.99 but after shipping for me it's about $43 so same price
-TR 1366 bolt through kit was $12+change

Out the door with tax it was around $450+change ($418 before tax)

-ASRock x58 Extreme I bought open box from NewEgg, they still have more. $118+$7 shipping. Had to RMA it after a month or so...this is the fresh RMA one. I think it's a good board, i just ended up with one initially that someone beat the crap out of (figuratively). I think the bios just got corrupted on it somehow...I had such a mild oc...3.6ghz on stock volts...nothing real hard on the board. (other than it ran at load 24/7 Folding)

Ax, will do on the bracket. The one that came with the Arrow didn't mount on the UD3R right for me, but it was defective (bowed in the middle). Looked like a good bracket though otherwise, new one should fit ok and clear everything. :) I'll take pics...trying to fight a migraine ATM otherwise I'd start building. ;)

I've got the true, that bolt kit, and that board, worked fine for me
not sure if that's what you're asking but ya...

Thanks Vaulter....I was indeed asking about the ASRock MB and how the bolt through kit fit on it. My Gigabyte board wouldn't quite work with the bolt through kit due to some clearance issues.

The TR 1366 bracket is...funny. (not funny haha but funny odd)
It fits very odd. (I'm used to Noctua's SecuFit2 being so solid and so stable feeling)

I'll try to explain this as best as I can because the TR kit is...again, odd.
You put the backplate on, flip the board over, put the 2 braces up, screw each one down with 2 screws, 1 per corner. After you screw them as far as they go, the top of the board (if you hold it up) looks like this.
IMG_0486_1.jpg

IMG_0487_1.jpg

The braces fit flush with the board. Right?

The bottom bracket does not fit flush with the backplate of the 1366 socket.
IMG_0496_1.jpg

Huh?
If you push the bracket up, then the braces don't fit flush with the board. (basically I'm showing there's wiggle room there, and I do not like wiggle room especially when we're talking about putting a 700+gram cooler on there).
IMG_0498_1.jpg

All is well though because once you install the cooler, the braces don't sit flush however the cooler does not move and the backplate is flush with the socket backplate.

Now, a few shots...final caseless.

I'm impressed with the TRUE Spirit..highly recommend it! It's lighter than it looks, and lighter than a TRUE (my q9450 is under a washer mod mounted TRUE). Fan clips are a lot easier to install on the CoGage. :)
If I didn't have the ginormous Arrow already (waiting to be mounted), I'd go buy a 2nd TS.

I'm working on figuring how I'm going to install xp64 on here. I could yank an optical out of my other machines temporarily, but I was hoping to install xp64 off a usb drive. Guides on that and info on that is...sketchy; kind of sounds like it's not really possible? Poo.

[more to come]

I just pulled an optical drive and took it out when I was done

And I'm not sure that mine had a gap like that...

Even if it did tho, mine are rack mounted, so I guess I could actually have just gravity mounted that bitch and saved 10$
either way tho, It keeps a full size true very steady on my board, no complaints, and load temps from 54-59, cant argue that!

Funny you mention the ocz i bought a 2x1 kit and cpu id says its corsair

Tobit's -bigOS installs from a USB stick. I guess I better get busy on finalizing that one of these days.

Yeah, I was hoping to test drive that soon. My latest i7-920 has just been processing A3's (and A1's, Grrrr) under WinXP while I've been tweaking the OC settings between WU's. Currently running 3.7 now with temps at 62-63 so it's settled down some on my way up to 4 Ghz (hopefully). Figure that will be my testbed for BigOS once you release it. ;)

@zero - When I was trying to get mine mounted, I noticed that turning the backplate 90 degrees from my first attempt helped it fit better. Looks like you have slightly better clearance than I did over those caps. Mine was actually touching the tops enough so that it was almost 1/8th of an inch up from sitting flush on the MB (GB X58A-UD3R). Have you verified the temps on your setup there yet?

Nice pr0n zero! Really got my blood pumping this morning.

Fold On!

Nice, can't wait to run em in VMs
Unfortunately, it isn't designed for VM use and not recommended for that. -bigOS is for those who want to run native Linux. I recommend linuxrouter's (EVGA) image for those who want to run VMs.

So my trusty Netgear usb wifi doesn't have an xp64 driver  so I just spent an hour fumbling around getting a 2nd router flashed to DD-WRT and setup as a client bridge to my primary router...now I'm updating xp64 and should commence oc'ing shortly, hopefully start running -bigadv right after midnight (my time). My DSL modem+router is out in the living room; all 4 LAN ports taken up (1 to my secondary PC, 1 to the 360, 1 to the DirecTV HR-22, and 1 that goes through the wall to my computer room for my primary/sig rig). I didn't want to really have to run another 10/100 for i7-2, and I was hoping not to have to use that 1 lead to a 2nd router, then out through it's LAN ports to i7 and i7-2....so I figured I'd try the old bridge way, connected just to the i7-2...luckily, that's worked ok so far. ;)

Big mess in my PC room right now...have stuff I need to put away already; i7-2 still on the box (in the pics above), with a trailing keyboard+wireless mouse, plus the network running to the bridged router sitting on the floor. LOL it's ghetto-tastic but it gets the job done for now. :D I'll take a picture later just to embarass myself. ;)

@ax, really the only temp I have so far is stock and idle..32c. :) Haven't oc'd yet, haven't really pushed it yet either (load). The cooler, what I did with the backplate was I matched up the little "window" in the backplate to the "window" of the socket backplate...don't know if that is the way it's supposed to fit, but it seemed like that would be the fairly safe bet so that's what I did. :)

@Tobit, I'd run -bigOS if I knew anything worth my salt in *nix; I feel so lost in it. No matter how much I try to spend in there, I just throw in the towel.
I almost did decide last night (before finally getting a working xp64 usb install) to install 7 through usb, oc and test, then install Ubuntu64 (probably LTS) and run -bigadv direct from there. Then I found the xp64 workaround though, so xp64+VM it is. Should work out a little better that way anyway, I do like checking the clients throughout the day and there's only a java client for logmein for *nix, no dedicated plugin for Fx and no standalone app.

Well as an update....I'm throwing in the towel on the ASRock for me. I'm just having oc trouble with it (where I had 0 with the GB) so I'm throwing in the towel. Going to list it FS and see if I get any takers (I'm sure I will). Figured I'd ask $120 shipped. If anyone's interested PM me and I'll give you guys first dibs before I list it in the FS forum. Fresh from RMA obviously, it tests out ok, it works...I'm just having oc troubles on it. I don't know if that's *me* or if that's *the board* but if you're interested in it keep in mind the board is guaranteed no DOA but still sold as is (in regards to oc)

I put a reserve down to store pickup the last GB X58A-UD3R MC has left @ $219....tomorrow is the last day of the 20% off BYOPC sale anyway so now's the time to buy while the buyin's good. Right now i7-2 is running SMP2 just because I didn't get too far on oc and I figured I might as well let it do *something* while I wait to transplant it to another board (hopefully tomorrow; Monday at the latest). I almost went for the EVGA SLI LE but a) I love the UD3R I already have, b) the warranty is better and c) the EVGA doesn't have IDE any frickin' way. [thumbs down] In my case, this boxen is running off a 120gb IDE. :)

That's all for tonight I'm off to bed.

You left out a photo of your cpu .....

Congrats on the new [H]ardware.

PS: .. The "person" waiving in the background made me laugh so hard.

Heh....I didn't really think about the fact that he was waving - nice catch.
My daughter was watching Teen Titans on Cartoon Network...that's Beast Boy. :)
(now I'm LMAO)

Apparently MC has no more UD3R's....I may just get the Bloodrage off NE now.

late edit
MC was out of UD3R's, I didn't feel comfortable really with the Foxconn (especially knowing the GB's are so solid)...went ahead and bought a 58A-UD3R off NE (and saved about $20 off MC's price+tax even after NE charged shipping). Should be here Tues. until then I'll just keep crunching A3's.

Thought to share a few new prelim shots now that I have swapped boards.

Gaht damn Gigabyte makes sexy boards. The blue+white used to turn me off but man those are some NICE colors. ;)

Ax - it was a tighter fit on the backplate side braces with the GB...I can see where your concern was on the mosfets around the cpu socket, closest to the mosfet heatsink. After screwing that down, it was resting on them...however I believe once the cooler is installed and it pulls that backplate up, snug with the back of the board....the braces will NOT sit on the mosfets any longer. [thumbs up]
