Guys, funny story here. I just remembered something from way back in 2004. There was this indie game/MMO called Rubies of Eventide that a friend of mine found. I donated some money to them (some kind of special account)only to be kicked off their forums for trolling if you can believe that...They never really made it. Anyone remember it? Anyone else ever lose money on something like this?

There was a few Dreamcast and xbox mmos that never happened that I was really pining for. I gotta go dig up the list. Nothing I've ever lost money on though.

Tabula Rasa was a pretty colossal failure.

So was Asheron's Call 2.

Dungeon Runners was a decent one by NCsoft. Looked cool, kinda diabloish. They shut it down in 2010 I think.

I tried Rubies of Eventide. The server was empty so I only played for a day or two. One MMO that I followed for a long time that never shipped was Boundless Adventures. Another one that I was looking forward to that never materialized was Lejendary Adventure Online. LJ was based on a RPG system designed by Gary Gygax!

Shadowbane. Was a great PvP game. Lasted quite a while too. It died not too long ago and people are working on creating an emulator to bring it back up.

planetside is still going. they are still making money. the problem with mmo's is everyone thinks it has to be the next wow to be great. it has a population that still loves to play after all these years. that is a success to me. i loved PS. i await PS2.

Ahh, strange. I thought I read about them shutting down. What happened was they shut down a bunch of the servers and merged them together. I wonder how many people still play it, though.

Hellgate: London by a long shot. I even bought the CE, I thought it had a chance.

I was really looking forward to True Fantasy Online for the original Xbox before MS canned it.

Vanguard still holds the #1 as the first "WoW Killer" to come around and one of the biggest failures of MMOs, ever.

Age of Conan -- Adventures on the Paraside Tortuga, Hell past Tortuga....large empty zones void of quests, content and mobs.

i loved that game but it was so buggy when it first launched and the pop drooped so fast that after like 3 months it was a ghost town

Resident Evil Outbreak and American magees City of the Dead.

GIMME MY GODDAMN ZOMBIE MMO!

Vanguard was a good idea that was rushed to be released a year or so early by SOE. Not having raid content or nearly any end game content for over a year after release was just stupid.

Oh, another one is that Myst: Online game (Uru? Something like that). When Myst 3 was released there was a promise of this online segment, but it never panned out so people could never even play it. Much later on it was actually restarted and community-made content is going to be allowed (supposedly). My GF was playing it a bit recently and it was okay...kinda meh, barely anyone playing it (if anyone...never actually saw another person in the game).

btw shadowbane f@cking owned when it first came out. I played a mean ass Irekei>thief>wererat>bountyhunter. So much fun tracking down people level grinding and just steal all thier gold. QQ

Is that Rift game still going?

Rift looks like it's here to stay. Though I haven't played it since last June myself.

Add Gods and Heroes to that list. It was an ancient Rome themed MMO that was supposed to be released in 2007, but it was taken down. Then another company tried to resurrect it last year, but when I tried that open beta, it was so incredibly bad and filled with so many bugs, I don't know how it's still operating even today. I really wanted it to be good because of the theme, but it was so the complete opposite of good that I just didn't really have any hope for it.
