QFT. When did the [H]ocp become the [P.C.]ocp. Glad to see a bunch of posters with such delicate sensibilities.

Really? Since I've trained in Judo, Jujitsu, Muay Thai, Tang Soo Do, and a little bit of MMA, I have no clue what I'm talking about? Good call, broski.
Maybe you shouldn't make assumptions. I've come across a lot of MMA fighters in my day. Yes, most of them were amateurs, and yes most of them were just kids looking to have a reason to fight and get jacked up off creatine and nitric oxide supplements. They followed no philosophy other than "ground and pound," which really isn't much of a philosophy at all.
From the episodes of Ultimate Fighter and UFC that I've seen (which is more than I would have liked to have seen), a lot of the guys are thugs. KIMBO SLIIIIIIIICE! YEAAAAAAAA MAN! Backyard brawling thug.
The whole "Tapout" following is just embarrassing.
When I think of "true" martial artists, I think of some of the Gracies who basically inspired modern day MMA and the UFC. Unfortunately, it became "Americanized."
wow, now THIS is funny....
yeah, like no one at baseball games, or football, or rugby, or soccer, or concerts, or a Nascar event, or <insert "x" event here> gets too drunk and gets obnoxious and wants to fight or cause trouble.....
people have been doing this for DECADES. anytime you get a large group of people together for some type of sporting event that places two or more groups against each other, drunken fans of each group that encounter each other are going to get into it. it's inevitable. but that doesn't mean that 99.9% of the rest of them aren't just there minding their own business and just enjoying the show.
and i don't know where you got the impression that MMA fighting is a "bloodsport". sure, there is sometimes bleeding involved, but they have sporting regulations that have clearly defined guidelines on when a fighter can and cannot continue fighting. the referees are highly trained inviduals, many times from within the MMA world themselves, who know exactly what to look for, and will end a fight if they see something they don't like. for instance, if someone catches an elbow to their face, and it cuts them under the eye, it may bleed like crazy, but as long as the fighter clearly still has his wits about him, is not being blinded by the blood (i.e., has a disadvantage), and is ***WILLING*** to go on, they will usually let the fight continue. now, if the cut is right above the eye, and the blood is flowing down into their eye, and they cannot stop the bleeding to a point where it is no longer a disadvantage, they will call it right then & there.
the UFC did have a period of time where it was highly misunderstood and people really did think it was a bloodsport, and in some cases, rightly so.....but that was before they gained widespread support for it and got the sporting regulators involved to make things safer for the fighters, and these days, it's highly unlikely that you'll be much/any worse off as a pro MMA fighter than you will be as a boxer.
i REALLY hate it when people make stupid, sweeping generalizations like this about stuff they either 1) know nothing about, and/or 2) don't fully understand
if you don't like it, fine...but don't go around spreading FUD about something you obviously haven't taken the time to really learn about.
Thats hilarious. So much prejudice and judgement in a few sentences! Not bad. I am sorry if you met obnoxious MMA fans, but havent we met obnoxious fans of anything, even the things we like, at some point? I for one have met many obnoxious sports fans on the streets. Often looking for a fight or vandalizing coming from soccer games or hockey games for instance. Its not MMA its too much testosterone and alcohol at the same time.
These people are athletes! The best are some of the most gifted athletes at any measure in my opinion. If you think its just triple chromosomes and bloodshed for the sake of bloodshed you got it all wrong. Obviously bloodied noses sell tickets in 2009, and one can discuss the value in that, but for people who have personal experience or knowledge of what it entails to master these fighting techniques, its far more than that. For me personally its the athleticism, the tactical game (maybe you havent thought of fighting as a mind game yet) and the concept of a very simple and universal stage, when two opponents face each other. No bats, no nets, no clubs, no wheels, just two humans and their talents. If you think MMA fans are crude, how come you will hear the crowd cheer when a jui-jitsu guy pulls off a cool reversal? The ground game itself is an awesome aspect of MMA, and most people are not equipped to make sense of it unfortunately, hence you think its all about the one brutal knock out!
I am not American, so I did not grow up with WWF, but to me that is far more disturbing that anyone would expose their little kids to this, even though its theatre, its a simulation of violence. MMA is for adults IMHO, and if you dont like it fine, but saying its a mindless bloodsport is silly and uneducated.
The idiots in this thread who thought that was funny would've been shaking if that guy was yelling at them.
It has nothing to do with being P.C. or high estrogen levels or any other such horsecrap. Its more to do with being civilized and leaving childish antics behind when one grows up.
There is nothing funny about intimidation.
Where is the humor that some of you see in the video? Do you think that dude with the beard is going to go home and tell his wife/family/friends about the oh so hilarious story about how a man who can tear his head off in seconds got all up in his face hollering and whatnot for no damn reason...but here is the punchline...he said he was kidding so its all OK right?? He said he was kidding so its funny right??
Or even the other way around. How would it sound if this MMA guy is telling the story? "Hey guys, I was in a meeting and decided to scare the living shit out of a person cause its hilarious ...Oh no, it wasn't anyone who could hurt me or even likely to fight back, it wasn't another MMA guy I was intimidating..it was a SOFTWARE DEVELOPER...../flex hurf durf!!11!!!11
Give me a break.
You're just making ridiculous assumptions is all. A Bloodsport? There is blood, yes. But there is also a crap load of rules and regulations to see it a sport.Oh ... I understand you have to like MMA. One must not dare to criticize it.The ad hominems, posturing, and gender questioning are hilarious, rather telling, and not unexpected.
Damnit, it won't let me edit that last sentence. haha

I specifically said "some of the Gracies" for a reason
I've seen the videos of the beach brawls on youtube.
And thanks for basically agreeing with the majority of my post and then clarifying some less relevant points, such as how Tapout has helped out some mixed martial artists or how Kimbo's life is completely dedicated to training.
Yeah, I'm probably being too cynical about it. I understand that 10/13 mixed martial artists are most likely thugs. I made some generalized points. I may not have as much experience as others, but I wouldn't necessarily say I have no idea what I'm talking about. Taken literally, that's a fairly bold statement.
I would've taken the incident very seriously.
Anybody remember several years ago on the news show 20/20 when John Stossel got knocked to the ground twice by open hand slaps to the head by wrestler David Schultz (aka Dr. Death) for daring to ask him the question if wrestling was fake? He was really injured, and suffered permanent hearing loss from the incident.
I am small, weak, and out of shape. Nevertheless, I am at the point in my life where I stand up to bullies and do not take crap from them. At the point where he got hostile and especially when he laid a hand on me I would have calmly called security and had him removed from the premises. Then I would have taken his sorry ass out of the game.
How is this behavior in any way acceptable or justifiable? You know they are suspending and sometimes arresting schoolchildren for even verbally (much less physically) threatening teachers, right?
There are appropriate jokes and inappropriate jokes. This was juvenile and inappropriate. Threatening to hurt someone is in no way acceptable at any time (try it at your work right now, and see how fast you get fired) and should have gotten him arrested, or at least 86'd from the building. Merely saying "I'm sorry, it was just a joke" at the end doesn't magically make everything all right.
This thread is almost as entertaining as the actual video was, especially watching a couple of self-righteous, easily offended, stuffy assholes get thoroughly owned and called out. Get over yourselves.
And to respond to some post (can't be fucked to remember your name right now), yes I would've been scared. I probably would have shit bricks then I would laughed at myself and been slightly embarrassed at the possibility that everyone may have been in on the joke but me. There are a lot of things that are "inappropriate" but we joke about them anyway. If you're still dealing with the emotional scars of your elementary school days, perhaps you should keep it yourself lest people accuse you of being a whiny oversensitive bitch.
This is more about acting human, rather then acting like an ape. If you gave the guy a banana, you couldn't tell him apart from one. This thread is almost as entertaining as the actual video was, especially watching a couple of self-righteous, easily offended, stuffy assholes get thoroughly owned and called out. You're also praising an adult man who was jumping out of a ball pit, who has a red mark on his head, like a women had her period while sitting on his head.
We're also looking through the window of how game developers get insight for putting together their games, and they want this mans opinion. Which would explain the current state of the gaming industry.

Spinelli, I agree with you 100%. Thanks for writing this well thought out response!
It seems that this thread has two camps, with many of the posters reposting.
GOD'SlittleSERVANT, Blown 89, FoxhoundOp, these dudes all feel like behavior like this is funny, okay, and that being a little whiny bitch about it on the Internet is "not cool" and that we need to enjoy life more.
spinelli, Tanis143, Enduring_Warrior, all seem to be with me on this that the joke was in BAD TASTE. I mean, seriously, you shouldn't be using intimidation as a means to humor. Especially with a complete stranger in a professional business environment. Sure its gaming, sure there is a ball pit... but I can assure you its not use to stage in house EA MMA matches to see who is the bigger man or who can take a bad joke better. It's probably used to ease tension, lighten up the room, build on teamwork.
Spectrum17 is right. These days, people do shit that goes too far. We all are a bag full of memories and issues and history. We don't know each other.. who the fuck does anyone think they are having the ability to intimidate anyone else as ADULTS. This is the day in age where people shoot each other in the face FOR NO GOOD reason.
Is this a rant post. Yes. Am I an opinionated individual with things/views/opinions to share? Yup! And Ghettobox, if you don't like the fact that people post what they think, feel, and that there is some limit to logic and reason, than go back to Twitter with its 160 character max post size, and come back when you are all grown up.
In my opinion, this video does explicitly show issues and problems in society instead of just some random guy getting pranked. I have respect for true businessmen, developers, and gentlemen, as I do martial artists and MMA fighters, but c'mon, don't be a douche! /rant

Although I don't agree with your post, there's no shame to say everyone has their own opinion. So let's just leave it at that. You and a few others thought it was a stupid joke; while myself and others thought it was just a joke out of good fun.
You know its an awesome place to work when the conference desk has a ball pit
You need to leave your room. Just saying.
And if I were to do that at work then say just joking after, I wouldn't get fired. Why? because everyone here knows how to take a joke.
