While it was close to the time for an upgrade, I was hoping to skip this generation, but my motherboard recently blew, leaving me unable to turn on the computer. This happened after a faulty hard drive replacement. My fault I realize, but it's done and gone. I really wasn't a big fan of the case I was using, as it's setup blocked me from being able to Tri-SLI (or use the last PCI Express lane to begin with. The power supply blocked it) and installing/uninstalling hard drives was a pain, so I decided the case needed a replacement too.

I'm coming from a i7 980x with 12 GB RAM. The reason for the P67 rather than the Z68 was that I already use a SSD for my boot drive and have several other SSD's, and only have 1 mechanical drive for storage, and have 2 Geforce 580's for graphics. I know I could have just bought a new MB for my old computer, but I really didn't want to spend the time and effort removing everything and chancing that I wouldn't blow the CPU. (I also chose the 2700K because I wanted to keep the speed similar before overclocking).
I guess I'm just wondering if I should have gone with the Z68 board, or just gone with a Sandy Bridge-E (while I still have time to cancel the previous order).
