I've a dual P3 933 I got about the last century, it's hard drive died and I was about to toss it.
I've a dual AMD 3800 which meets SMP deadlines fine.
It will probably take me about 5 hours to put the 933 back on line with Linux - Does anyone think it will meet SMP deadlines?
I know that the newer Intel chips fold faster than AMD on SMP.

Sorry, even the fastest p3 (1.4Ghz Tualitans) can't complete a SMP in time, it uses ... SSE2 I think... which they don't have so it can't get the sse boost it needs. best bet on that one is running 2 regular clients... which is what I'll do I've got 2 Dual 933 coppermine servers and a Dual 1.2Ghz Tualitan server... not sure if it's worth the effort for electric bill but hey I got em might as well fold with em.

A dual PIII would not make deadlines for SMP even if it could run the Linux client. The Linux SMP client is 64 bit so it would require a 64 bit OS which would be a bit difficult to run on a PIII.

You could throw Windows XP Pro or Vista and run SMP that way, but that wouldn't make deadlines either. :(

Thanks,
I suspected so.:(

It's so sad when a dedicated machine is lost to advances in technology.
My 350 Cely did not die, it just became not worth running,

Does anyone have any good

memory available?
