Mini PCIe on a Desktop?

I was looking at this item on Newegg and was wondering if it's possible to make it work on a Desktop PC. I know it's meant for a laptop. The reviews of the item look good which is why I'm considering purchasing it.

Basically I'm looking for a wireless solution for my computer with a transfer rate of up to 450 Mbps (or whatever is the current highest). I don't see any internal card for a Desktop as of yet.

What's the difference between PCI-e and mini PCI-e? Are the ports different sizes? If so, is there an adapter that will do the trick? I could not find anything and figured someone here may know something. I realize mini PCI-e is meant for a laptop.

Is there another, similar device for the Desktop?

Found this. Don't know how well it works, but you'll still need to buy antennas and then the cables to connect to the card.

But if you go to newegg, there are other options for 450mbs. A usb adapter and one that hooks up to your ethernet port.

You'll also need a router that matches that speed if you want to actually use that speed.
