Mid Win2k3 Install Error

I've been attempting to install win2k3 on a new build for a friend. Everytime it gets to install drivers it loses the CD rom drive. It's seeking, then bam, asks for the CD and I can't find the drive. It lists the two partitions on the main drive and that's all. I've tried different drives, different channels, different cables, everything. This happens no matter what. The board is an A7v, could it be the promise raid I'm not using but can't disable that's causing a conflict down the line?

I also tried to put the hard drive in another system and just copy the i386 to it and finish the install from there but then that system wouldn't boot.

Any ideas?

Whats the CDRom connected to ? the Promise ports? I think youd have to do the F6 and install the Promise drivers from floppy.
Id install with just the HDD and CDRom, nothing else

No, I have nothing on the promise ports. They are on, but that's all. I only have a cdrom drive and a hard drive, each on their own channel. This is really, really weird.

do you have another copy of the disk?

i know its a long shot :D

we got 2 new servers in the other day. i messed one up real bad and had to reinstall s2k3. one disk (from dell) was bad and refused to install. several dfferent errors. i used the other disk and had no problems.

i then tried the cd on a dekstop and it too failed to install
