Hi all.

From what I can gather, my Q6600 g0 sitting in a P5Q with 2x2gb g.skill 1000's (@800) and a ASUS 4850 is pulling more than my old fsp can give, so it's power cycling randomly.

Looking at the recent threads here, the 430w Antec Earthwatts (Now Delta?) PSU suggested to me elsewhere should work, as well as a similar 450w from Corsair.

As is mentioned regularly, PSUs are often the most overlooked bit of hardware, and I'm no different... I've been trying to research it since the reboots started, but I'd still like some input.

I'd like to be able to move up to a better card eventually (4870, if they get cheaper, perhaps), or a newer card in the same bracket when they come out. Should either of these be able to handle that, or would I need to step up to something else and move out of the 50-80$ range?

So far the choices seem to be these:Thanks for the help =)

[edit]I am planning on overclocking a little - The 4850 is overclocked stock, and I probably won't take it any further, but I'd like to run my Q6600 around 3.0.[/edit]

Both of the PSUs that you mentioned are quality units, if you wanted a little more headroom you could go for the Corsair 550w for $78 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139004
or even the Earthwatts 650w (I am Canadian so I don't have all the american stores bookmarked in my mind :p )

I did run the Q6600 rig in my sig on the 430w Earthwatts for a few months overclocked and I thought it was a very solid unit but I do feel a little better after getting my Corsair 520hx back from RMA.

I concur with ballistic: Either the Corsair 550VX and Antec EA650 are good choices. Figure out which PSU company you like most (Antec with its 3 year warranty or Corsair with their 5 year warranty) and proceed from there.

From what I can tell, the EA650 has three 12v rails rated at 22/22/25A, whereas the 550VX/VX550 does it's own thing with a single 41A 12 rail. The JohnnyGURU review is down, so I really casn't see what that's all about... But how would this affect upgrades to cards within the next two or so years? Which would cope better?

+1 for the Corsair 550VX. Gives you sufficient power in a decent psu with a bit of headroom.

SecretHate: I ordered the 550VX half a hour ago, but if you can explain a little and that one's better, I can cancel and snag that. I'm really not going for crossfire, if that's why.
