Hey guys, its been about 5 years since I built my computer and its starting to slow down for my needs now. I will be selling my old comp to a friend so there are very few parts I will be reusing, nothing inside the computer. I have part of my tax return to build my new computer. Since I built my last computer I haven't kept up with hardware, so I have no clue what the standards are today. I'd really like to stay around $1200 or less, but could go to $1400 if needed. I'm a huge FPS player, and use my computer for school work, browsing, and gaming.

1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc

60% browsing/homework, and then 40% Gaming

2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?

I'd like to stay under $1200. If its quite worth it, I have a max of $1400 with all costs included, maybe a bit over

3) Which country do you live in? If the U.S, please tell us the state and city if possible.

US, between Peoria/Bloomington Illinois

4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. The word "Everything" is not a valid answer. Please list out all the parts you'll need.

Case, CPU, RAM, PSU, GPU, Mobo, possibly a SSD, HDD, CD drive, pretty much starting from scratch except for parts from the next question

5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.

I already have monitors, keyboard, mouse, and speakers. No actual components of the computer.

6) Will you be overclocking?

Possibly. I have never before, and don't know how, but am interested.

7) What is the max resolution of your monitor? What size is it?

One monitor is 1920x1080, used for games and such, the other 1280x1024 used for itunes, maps, all extra stuff.

8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?

Within the next month, soon as possible

9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support?
USB 3.0? SATA 6Gb/s? eSATA? Onboard video (as a backup or main GPU)? UEFI? etc.

No RAID, Firewire, or Onboard Video. Crossfire/SLI is optional, though I doubt I will ever run a 2 or 3 GPU set up. USB 3.0 would be nice but not necessary. There aren't really any features I "NEED", just some nice wants.

10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? If yes, what OS? Is it 32bit or 64bit?

Yes, Win7 64bit

The only part I am really "for certain" on is the CPU. From the reading I've done the i5 2500K is about my best bet for my price range. Other than that its a crapshoot for me.

Thanks a ton in advance to you guys, I appreciate the help

I would hold off till late April/early May to start planning this build as Intel will be releasing their new Ivy Bridge CPUs around that time frame. In addition, the prices for GPUs would settle more reviews of Z77 motherboards should be out. by then.
