That was exactly the point, that politicians and media people use the term that's most common in the market. When I was a kid, we all played atari, whatever the system was. Then it was nintendo, then playstation. I dunno if xbox is the new generic, but it's certainly not playstation anymore, and I have never heard anyone say wii as a generic.

Its first i have heard of a generic console. for me, there is no clear winner in the console market. all 3 are doing well once a person removes their rose tinted fanboy glass's off. for me a failed console is something like the dreamcast or the sega saturn. now thats a failed console.

when i think of the word console, both ps3/360 comes into mind.
