It really doesn't matter what the media etc call video gaming as you'll find in different parts of the world will use different terms. There was a piece in the British tabloids 6 months or so ago calling the 'playstation' at fault for children developing problems with hands/joints later in life and naming Halo as a culprit. 'nuff said. Just like the terms 'Nintendinitis' and 'Playstation Thumb' used to describe general over use of console gaming.
That was exactly the point, that politicians and media people use the term that's most common in the market. When I was a kid, we all played atari, whatever the system was. Then it was nintendo, then playstation. I dunno if xbox is the new generic, but it's certainly not playstation anymore, and I have never heard anyone say wii as a generic.
