You can file this under the "No Duh" category, but it is still worth mentioning. Reuters is running a story about Microsoft's takeover bid of Yahoo, and how Microsoft would prefer to go it alone and own the company outright instead of sharing with other companies such as News Corp.

The source close to Microsoft said the company's preference all along has been to retain the original deal structure that would involve paying $31 per share in cash and stock to acquire Yahoo. But Microsoft has not ruled out bidding with partners.

Really, who does not want to own something outright instead of having to share it with others?

You must consider the financial aspects when working with a deal like this. Microsoft may want to go in on the deal with News Corp. to spread the risk out. For example, if they really just wanted a 5/7th Myspace, there is no company that matches that profile 100%, so they can split it with News Corp.

This is done very frequently in the financial world. Take a look at how IPOs are structured: One investment bank does all the work then allows 5-6 other banks' market makers to make a market in the security and gives them all a portion of the IPO (and the fee). Even though the bank should theoretically trust all the work it has done, it is always preferable to lower risk.

Yahoo would hit the jackpot if Microsoft partnered to give a higher price yet!
Already at 60% increase, what would it take? 100%????

Yahoo should sell out of shame. i dont care what they did to begin with. they were one hit wonders and now they are simply selling out by holding out. get on your back and take it like the bitches you are yahoo!.
