Insiders are getting a big taste of what is coming to Windows 10 in the latest preview, which includes a handful of all-new features such as custom Start menu folders, low-blue-light mode, and high-DPI improvements for desktop apps. Even the new Green Screen of Death makes its debut here.

Windows 10's Creators Update is due early this year, and Microsoft served up what you might call a hearty appetizer Monday morning: its massive Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 15002, with so many improvements that we’ve broken out the back-end ones, which include pauseable updates, app throttling and even a new Green Screen of Death, into a separate article. Build 15002 is being released for the PC only, as part of the Fast Ring of Insider builds. Be aware of a few bugs: Miracast connections won’t work, and the Netflix app probably won’t render video (instead, use Edge).

This has been the NUMBER 1 thing everyone has been demanding. It may be safe to let children use Windows 10 now.

But mostly, it looks like Microsoft is incorporating a lot features you find scattered amongst other browsers, operating systems, and phone manufacturers. I'm not going to ridicule any of it, as it is all useful stuff, but I'm sure some will say it's just Microsoft playing catch-up (maybe not on this site though).

The only thing that came off as futile, was trying to make Edge desirable.

It not to do with catch-up
Has more with a new way for MS to do more friendly inter face
The only thing I don't care is the Windows Store
I agree trying to make Edge desirable is bit of joke at time in fact last build was so bad and crash prone 80% of time it wasn't even funny but so far it working will so far.

No I agree with you. I think the changes outlined in the article are just fine. I was merely pointing out that none of it is revolutionary and are features already available elsewhere. So the nay sayers will chide Microsoft for not being original. But the features themselves are fine and I welcome them.

Except that blue light thing......I'm still questioning that one....but again others have done it already.

I agree with the Windows Store though. It's still a mess. EDIT: Compared to the "other" store, it's a mess, from a user experience point of view.

Does changing the color output on the screen really help, though? Where are the confirmed studies that modifying the white balance to cut blue light does anything beneficial? It's not that I'm a skeptic (ok, I lie, I am) but this is on my iPhone, too. I've never noticed a difference whether it's off or on - it's still LIGHT in my face. Honestly it seems like a gimmick.

I'll just stay with my Colormunki Display (monitor calibrator) and have it auto adjust based on ambient light.

Reducing the blue light is going to screw up the color balance and if you are working with photos or care about actual color correctness this "feature" is a big negative.

The high-DPI stuff is interesting. Use with care as almost borked a couple of programs/apps trying it out. Not quite sure what does what at this point. Need to research a bit.

The current Windows 10 BSOD is pretty humiliating as is. Here's an emoji for your troubles. Isn't it cute!

I especially like the search online later bit.....later, like as in when my computer isn't borked anymore?

    Xbox One, Windows 10 Phone

Windows 10 Phones are dead going forward or it would have been nice for that. My android phone has a night feature that works well. Xbox One runs on Windows 10, but doesn't seem like it needs this feature.

I didn't know that, I knew they were based on windows 10 kind of a thing, but didn't know it was the full OS type deal..

How the hell do we not have an Xbone emulator? :p

I don't know the details about how. I do know that the Creators Update to be released for PC is supposed to include a gaming mode that makes your PC more console like by disabling un-needed services. So there are differences but the core of the system is the same from what I understand.

They are going to push Edge. It's a pretty buggy release which isn't surprising considering all that's in this build but the Netflix app is working fine on my Surface Pro 3.

What did you do, pull this out of your behind? Windows 10 Mobile does not need more system memory, it runs fine with just One Gigabyte. Also, Edge on the phone does not crash at all and to be honest, nor does it on my PC's, although I use Firefox most of the time.

Win10Phone is dead? What's the hype with all this Surface Phone crap, then? Oh, and x86 emulation on ARM? I think there's more left to be seen, here.

Microsoft got out of the handset hardware game, yes, but I think the mobile OS is still alive. They've not changed their corporate catch phrase yet. Last I checked it was Mobile first, Cloud first.

*goes to put in some microwave pork rinds, as I'm sure this will bring the shitstorm*

I'd love to agree with you, but I can't stand Edge on Mobile any more than I can on the desktop! Hahah. I wanted to, I really did, but it just can't compare to FireFox or Chrome. Oh, and on my Lumia 950 (yes, I have one of those in a drawer someplace) Edge would routinely behave like a little bitch and freeze up. I never did figure out why.

I don't think the Blue Light reduction will be as dramatic as Flux it's very subtle on BenQ monitors you can hardly notice it just makes whites yellow. If the windows version doesn't reset Nvidia settings this could be great. getting more light into the retina then you want even though the screen is using blue light reduction

Here is a video that shows Blue Light Reduction it at 8:00

    You forgot the /s ;)

"Surface Phone" is more wishful thinking of a few WMCentral zealots and closet MSFT investors than legit hype. Hardware wasn't Windows Phone's ultimate demise so much as an ugly, sluggish, tiled OS with no apps. MS continually abandoning an ever-shrinking pool of existing customers with every refresh didn't help matters either.

In order to stand any chance, the mythical Surface Phone unicorn would require a new, ground-up, instantly compelling "Surface OS" with killer launch apps to complement it. However Microsoft has demonstrated no ability or desire to innovate in the software space anymore in this current Metro era of suck. Launching grandship hardware with WMobile10 as it exists today would be further financial wrist-cutting.

Windows-on-ARM: Bloated, legacy Windows x86 running emulated on expensive ARM SoC would be like sticking an elephant on a unicycle. Android on ARM is poised to scale upward and outward to the desktop 5-10x faster than Windows x86 on ARM is capable of scaling downward and inward. And I just don't see soccermoms and millennials carrying around expensive WoA tablets to run high density, non-touch legacy software like Photoshop on a small screen.

The GSOD is only on Insider/Preview builds btw. The consumer/release builds will still be BSOD's.

Do it. If you think Windows is great and problem free, hang out on the Answers forums or Technet.

I loved Vista. I never had a problem. I haven't had a problem with 10. Go to the forums - Holy shit was Vista a POS. Yes, it's the vocal few that have problems, but it's common problems and it's not just one or two. It's hundreds.

You're right about Edge. I enjoy it, but there are times when I'm having a good time and -click- it's gone. Chrome is my #1 browser, but I'm always giving Edge a try. It's just not stable. It's not isolated incidents, either.

    ****

And the blue light shit just happened on my PC. Weirded me out. Last night, I expected it as I turned it on. This time, it just did it. Weird. Not bad, but when you're looking at the text and it starts turning a different colors - wow.

Really? I am not speaking of the insider preview at that point though and I have yet to see Edge crash on my Phone. I do not do the previews anymore because I just do not have the time nor patience to do the testing but, it was fun to try out.

Edit: Oh, and this needs more system memory crap is just that, crap. Unless, of course, you consider 1GB on the phone to be excessive. Oh, and beta software is going to be unstable, what did you expect for being on the fast insider ring, perfection?

PS even non beta I can easy be crash with edge with just one web site like redbox need proof here you go

Trying to give Edge a chance since IE gets wonky after 1GB of memory usage.

Shit I had to google to figure out.

How to display a favorites bar
How to have a home button
How to open a tab with my home page or any page of MY choice (can't be done)

    Number 3 is glaring.
