what a shameless money grab. pay for the OS and now pay for the software that'd normally come with it or download for free. if they think i'm paying for my missus to get live movie maker they got another thing coming. i suppose basic apps like notepad and calc will end up costing extra too. sure glad i don't actually use much of the software that comes with windows. come to think about it i can only think of notepad. certainly don't use their crappy media players.
Uhh where the hell are you getting these from? They come integrated with the operating system. "Hey, let me make up shit on the spot in order to bash Windows 8."
Windows Live Movie Maker
Windows Media Player
Notepad
Character Map
Wordpad
Zune
Microsoft Security Essentials
Solitaire
Minesweeper
and the list goes on
What do they all have in common? They're all free and provided by Microsoft. Why? Because they're complimentary services.
My brother runs a spam filtering business which has been very efficient in helping businesses reduce the amount of spam that gets into their inbox. How much does it cost his customers? None? Why? Because it's a complimentary service given to them if they're a customer for his other services like on-site technical support by contract. If he had charged for his spam filtering, he probably wouldn't have had the customers for long. Like my brother, that's Microsoft's selling point. They're not going to start removing all those things and saying "Pay up fuckers, freebies are over".
The App Store is no different from how it's done on Android, Windows Phone, or Apple. They will be able to consolidate and help other companies drive products to the customers. When the Windows is 90% of the market, it make sense to help the developers sell through App Store and increase their profit margins. Plus it will be much better security doing so because the current way is going out on the internet, searching for it, and then risking the chance of infection.
Ya, let's not assume like you did.
