Microsoft anti-malware for Linux

Well thank fuck we have Defender for Linux, It'd probably be infinitely more useful if we could get MS Office for Linux. /s

Not that I'd use either, but it'd give the shills one less thing to complain about.

The only part where this makes slight sense. Is if MS wants to replace something like Clam. Yes I guess its true if someone is using MS product and say providing email service to windows users. I guess its a good idea to scan for windows malware via a Linux interface. Integrating their own solution in that case is logical. (not that I believe their solution would do as good a job as the open source option)

Really though this is shovelware. Nice Try MS... Linux doesn't need your defender crap no. Yes lets give "defender" privileged access to our systems; MS has never ever had a security lapse that has turned their own systems into attack vectors. :)

I find myself agreeing with this commenter on their own community post. This would be a semi funny joke post on April 1. IF MS had any self awareness, which they do not.

Is this an out of season Aprils fools joke?

This is enterprise level affair not for a regular desktop to run part of the security on remote cloud and give IT cloud remote access to it.

They already have paying customer for their Microsoft defender for this since ~2020 https://news.thewindowsclub.com/microsoft-defender-atp-for-linux-now-available-101141/, this is just some update with some new extension I think, it was common for Linux server, for Linux Laptop it was a bit complicated. Like the blog post said: Defender protects Linux desktops with the same deployment organizations already use to protect Linux servers...

i.e. The first target enterprise would have been using this for years and have good confidence in Microsoft.
