Microsoft has announced pricing for the Kinect today. The motion sensing control will be $149 by itself and $299 with a new 4GB Arcade Xbox 360. You can get more info here.

The new unit, which can be found in the $299 Kinect console bundle, as well as on its own for $199, ships with 4GB of built-in Flash memory, and features a matte paint job instead of the high-gloss finish found in the current Xbox 360 "S" units. The console will otherwise remain the same as the $299 Xbox unit, with front and back USB ports, a Kinect-specific I/O port, and built-in 802.11n Wi-Fi.

Not sure that the Arcade X-box would be worth it from a gamers point of view, but it definitely allows MS to follow up their recent success (outselling Wii and PS3) with a good entry bridge for casual gamers. Smart move across the board imo.
 
If Playstation wants to beat this new Xbox plan they will just need to build a PS4 the PS3 is now old and out dated needs bluretooth 4.0 , 802.11N HDMI 1.4a connection all the sound codes built in like THX Ultra Plus,Dolby Digital HD, DTS-HD stuff like that and 4 layer blu-ray laser. Playstation needs soo many updates on the hardware side and software too. Great to see Xbox is doing some of these things that PS is not.

PS3 does Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD.

Really? Xbox has no Bluetooth at all, does not support any of the codec's you listed, has no Blu-ray laser and does not have HDMI 1.4a.

As mentioned above the codec's you mentioned were added to the PS3 via a firmware update. It has Bluetooth, just not 4.0. The 4.0 spec's big thing is low energy mode so unless your running your PS3 on a battery why do you care about that? No commercial Blu-rays even use a 4 layer laser. The only reason you would need HDMI 1.4a is for 3D movies and Sony already figured out how to do that over the PS3's HDMI 1.3 port.

Why are they calling it the Xbox 360 slim? It pretty much as fat as the other one. It is a little shorter though. Shouldn't they be calling it the Xbox 360 short?
 
With freaking memory and hard drives space getting cheaper why the hell are they only putting 4GB in these things....

i could have sworn i read somewhere that the new 360s dont require the ridiculously priced MS branded HDD. I cant say for sure since i dont follow 360 news all that closely since there isnt anything thats worth buying on that platform IMO

they now use a different type of ms branded hd that is not available for sale yet.

Because it brings the price down to where it's accessible while maintaining its core utility. 4GB is just enough to save a ton of save games and a handful of demos/DLC/etc.

When purchased in bulk for integration, there is almost no cost savings in going with a 4GB chip instead of a 8GB chip. This is a move specifically to gimp the console and try to sell HDs or more expensive consoles, not to keep costs down.

I was not trying to troll I love the PS3 I was merely wanting upgrades. yes PS3 can do 3D on the current port it has but it will only push 720P not 1080P. I know there is no 4 layer yet I said that so they can future proof the PS they always do. It's my fault I should have said things I would like to see in the next PS. Yes they did an update for the sound codes I did forget that..the old PS3 did not come with the codes and the new PS3 do. Sorry did not mean to sound like a troll I really do love my PS3 just would love to see a new one out or even a PS4.

As said, it will work fine. The added port on the new systems supplies power. If you have an older Xbox, you'll just need to plug it into the wall for power instead.

Or pretty much any FAT32 USB flash drive.

Not sure if I want Kinect or not. We'll see if anything really jumps out at its debut. I do love my newer, shinier Xbox though.

The PS3 does 1080p 3D, just not for games. The codecs are available for all PS3s. It's nothing more than a firmware update.

There's also not much need for 4 layer BD. Nothing uses it and nothing is going to use it, cause the lowest common demoninator will hold others back. In this case, the 360. Also with the increasing size of HDDs in the consoles, why bother. Just install the games on the HDD. I'd much rather see a 4x BD-rom, than some stupid 4 layer one.

I think USB expansion would be better. USB bluetooth, USB wireless-n, etc.
 
I don't see why it wouldn't use the same 250 gb available for the S model. It definitely won't use the old model hard drives.
 
So, let me get this straight.

Kinect -- 150$
Xbox 360 Arcade -- 150$

Special Xbox 360 Arcade that comes with Kinect -- 300$

Well, can't argue with those kinds of saving.
 
I want to play that star wars game.. I don't like racing with a controller let a lone without anything. And petting baby tigers names skittles just doesn't seem fun either.
