Micro Center i5 2400 - $129.99 (In Store Only)

good deal if you just need a solid quad core and don't plan on doing any overclocking.

Damn, I just paid $168.86 at NCIXUS (assuming they will approve the price match offer I put in).

OMG. I might have to upgrade my 1090T to something better at this price. Does this come with the $60 off Z68 as well???

Pretty sure you can do some mild overclocking and hit ~4.0 with a P67/Z68 board :)

No, this processor does not have an unlocked multi. The best you could do is set it at it's max Turbo setting (3.4 GHz).

Umm no u can't. CPU is locked. Could probably squeeze a couple hundred extra MHz by upping the BCLK a few MHz but that's it.

Damn I just bought an i3 2100 for $99 literally last week for a cheapy build at that time I didn't think it was worth a $50 upcharge, now for $20....

I haven't built the system yet (i.e. open the package), but I'm leaving on vacation for 2 weeks today! Wonder if there's an expiration date on that coupon.

DOH! Expires 1/10/12 summabitches! And its not like I can do in store pick up and have them charge me now then pick it up when I get back on!

Double DOH! I apparently did open the box, so they probably wouldn't accept a return anyways.

I must be thinking of the non K 2500, but I swear someone was able to get to 4.0 even with just the few MHz changes.

I believe coupon expires 7 days from when you signup, so see if the deals still on in two weeks. I thought Micro Center took back just about anything.

Damn this is tempting but I enjoy overclocking and would regret not paying the extortion and getting the 2500K.

um, you can overclock 4 bins(400mhz) for non-k i5/i7 cpus on p67/z68

Ummm I'm not trying to disagree, but please explain these. Are you saying the following are only hitting those max clocks with a single core via turbo?

All form this thread - http://www.overclock.net/t/1006651/i5-2500-non-k-overclocking

i5 2400 is 3.1ghz stock (31 * 100)
assuming all BCLK is 100
32x @ 4 cores for 1 level of turbo
33x @ 3 cores
34x @ 2 cores
35x @ 1 core

OC everything 4 bins
36x @ 4
37x @ 3
38x @ 2
39x @ 1

i5 2500(in your thread) starts at 3.3ghz (33 * 100)

so the max 4 core overclock = 33 + 1(turbo) + 4(overclock) = 38x
max 1 core overclock = 33 + 1(turbo) + 4(overclock) + 3(shutting down other 3 cores) = 41x

tweak a little of BCLK (i'd say < 105 would be stable)

I swapped my FX6100 with the Asus Crosshair Formula board for this deal. They will exchange only, not return for refund.

And yes you can have them charge your card for in-store pickup. I did that on the 1055T deal when they had it going on.

um, last I've used Microcenter pickup, they take your CC info on the online order page, but only charge you when you pick it up and physically swipe your card there... I dont think they ever touch your CC info from online besides a $1 pre-auth

Hmm anybody have some insight on this vs an i3 2125 for an HTPC?

If you plan on using the integrated video I would get the i3 2125 as it has the 3000 hd graphics vs the 2000 hd on the i5 2400. Also power draw is less on the i3. However if you have a dedicated graphics and plan gaming on the htpc I would get the i5 2400 at the MC price.

I hate mc. There's never one where I live and they only do these deals for instore. Such crap.

/jealousy

would it be worth it to pick this up to replace an i3 2120? not sure if I should just go for the 2500k if i'm gonna make the hour drive to MC.

what mobo do you have (and hsf), and what are you doing? (gaming, programming, virtual machine etc?) and would you overclock if you could?

i have an msi p67-gd55 and a spire thermax eclipse II i had laying around. And I would only really be using it for gaming at 1920x1080 on a westy 37w3. i have 2 6870s for crossfire so I don't know if the i3 is holding them back or not. i would overclock if i could.

I would say the i3 might be holding the 6870 CF back a little, but wouldn't buy the i5 2400 since you can only reach up to 3.8ish ghz on quad core (unless you can sell the i3 for $100)

you have all the necessary parts to get a 2500k to 4.5ghz or more... its a waste to be locked on a 2400 non-K

wait till microcenter sells it for $150 again(Black friday) or $160(the coupon a few weeks ago), or used on the forums.... surely there will be people upgrading to SB-E or IB, and you can get it used

1-MC will let you return anything, lol
2-Dumb ? but why can't you just up your fsb to OC this?
3-Too bad you can't get the $50 off a combo deal, I'd upgrade the wife's PC :)

It says in your link how they did this 105.56 * 38, they bumped up the turbo 4 bins and raised the bclk to 105.

I wouldn't overclock any non K edition. It's not worth the risk and strain put on the BCLK clocking

guess you can't read... you CAN overclock 4 bins.... and then you can play with BCLK for more, or leave BCLK alone

Is the 10th the last day or is it over on the 10th?

I'm not sure when it ends, but I believe the coupon expires 7 days from when you signup/print. At least that's how the i5 2500K for $159.99 offer worked.

Anyone want to buy a brand new unopened X4 970 cpu? I need to get this cpu on monday morning

I picked up one of these i5 2400's today at MC. Its funny cause online it actually shows out of stock on my local store and many others, but the store I went to still had plenty.

Pretty good deal for this CPU if you ask me. I mean, its only $30 more than the damn i3-2100. No bundle deal of course though.

LOL got a buyer for my cpu already, looks like I am going to MC on monday morning to pick this up
