Micro Center adding four new stores

I clicked this thread thinking there is no way Wisconsin is going to get one of these, but Wisconsin made the list. And its about time. The nearest MC was a 3 hour drive to Chicago and 10% sales tax, the nearest Frys was a 6 hour drive to Minneapolis. I'm assuming it will be Milwaukee, Madison, or the Fox Cities. Either way its a 90 minute drive at worst and 20 minute drive at best.

Heh, I thought the same. Apparently MC purchased a building in Wauwatosa last year:

20m from where I work, so I am happy. :)

Minneapolis got a Fry's Electronics? There wasn't one when I lived there, and there's nothing on their website saying there's a Minnesota location.

Can we please get one in the pacific northwest. No love for seattle or portland.

I guess we at least have frys in each city. (I live in portland but frequent seattle a lot and lived there earlier this year.)

Great, can they bring one back to Santa Clara, CA, or at least in the Bay Area, I'm not willing to buy from them online, nor am I interested in having to drive 350 miles to the nearest store.

Why not Tennessee? There is a total lack of direct competition, unless you think Best Buy is competition.

same here, all i have locally is that half assed fry's :(

its not worth driving down all the way to orange county...

I wish we could get another one here in Colorado. I'm down in Boulder and can't do the drive to Denver all the time. /:

I lived near the one in Denver Tech Center, never knew how good I had it as I was not building at that time. Then I moved, and noted how good the CPU prices where there. Recently, I took a 2 buses and 2 trains from North East Philly to St. Davis, not a short trip, just to buy the 3770K CPU. It was worth it, got my CPU for $290.

My parents drove me two and a half hours from Delta, PA to get to there, to get a 2500k, and a board for it. It was totally worth the drive, even if just to see the Devon-Berwyn area.

YES!! I hope this gets off the ground sooner rather than later. There are no good computer stores in Wisconsin :(.

QFT!

I'd love to see it open up in 'Tosa. I'd save a ton of gas and toll fees from MKE.

New York would have been cool if it wasn't NYC. I'm not surprised though.

Agree'd NY is a pretty big state, but all these big stores focus on the NYC area... The bottom right corner of a whole state. Us CNY New Yorkers would love to see something a little closer for once.

Excellent! I live in NYC :) There's already a Micro Center about 45 minutes from where I live, but the proposed location is even better for me.

Looks like Flushing :)

Yes! I mean I wasn't really complaining about the Westbury, NY location since it was 5 min from my office in Hicksville and about a 15 min drive from my place in Queens but now that they're going to open another one in Queens it's going to be awesome to have 2 Microcenters within a 15 mile radius of me LOL. :p :p :p

I was just thinking how awesome that would be too hahaha, also...i live in flushing XD bahahaha :D

Yeah my friend who works at the Yonkers MC told me that the MC is coming to flushing, most likely to the new mall they just opened on college point. (Direct info from his manager who is moving to the Flushing store)

I wonder what their new format will be like? There is one in St. Louis Park, MN which is basically in the middle of the Twin Cities metro area. I still think they could open up more in the twin cities.

They will probably be similar to the old CompUSA stores they took over where they made a larger TV and BYOPC section and a 'knowledge bar'. And I wouldn't worry about them expanding too fast, one of the first things they go over in orientation about their history is that they learned their lesson from over expansion in the early 80s when they were getting started. Probably the reason they are doing four all the sudden is because they sold off Redemtech which probably gave them a nice amount of cash to work with.

So thats why they are closing the ONLY microcenter in the bay area? Seriously... the tech hub of the world is losing all microcenters...

I join the huddled masses yearning to breath recycled air at microcenter to get good proc/MB deals...

This is a sad sad thing :(

From what I've heard, the landlord wanted a lot more in rent. Another reason for the expansion is because real estate is cheap. It may take some time but they'll probably be back.
