micro center 1156 launch

That price has gone nowhere since May, and Fairfax, VA has restocked three times, and Rockville, MD twice. It's not a specific-store price, but a ntional price, and it will ttherfore likely run until HQ in Ohio sez "SCHTOP; We're losing too much money!" (and considering MC is privately held, and their history, that's as unlikely as MC selling Motorola SB-6120 cable modems in their stores).
 
Two MicroCenters nearby, and neither have the i5-750 in stock. They have the RAM, they have the mobos, but CPUs are a nit.
 
Just picked up an i5-750 from the DC area Microcenter priced at $180, along with the GBP55-UD3R for $150.
 
The MC in Marietta has a ton of them, was putting spyders on them all day :/
Can't remember if we have the mobos or ram yet as i didn't care to look, but i am almost positive that we do
 
i guess the cincinnati store had some of the best stock :) it should be at all of em soon hopefully they are shipping ups daily

I was up there yesterday, you guys had a ton of stock. If I weren't so satisfied with my i7 I might have taken the dive.

I probably spend enough up there on any given weekend to pay for your salary. :p

Which DC-area MC? They have two (Fairfax/Vienna, VA and Rockville, MD). Neither is showing the processors in stock via the Web store.

The Fairfax location is in the Pan Am Shopping Center (Lee Highway @ Nutley Street, next to Michael's) and the Rockville, MD location is in the Federal Plaza Shopping Center (enter from either E. Jefferson Street or Rockville Pike), next to Dollar Tree.

I usually shop at Rockville (cheaper to get to) though Fairfax is closer.

The Fairfax on Nutley street. I was just back in there again today and they had at least 3-4 on in the case back there where all the MB / cases / Components are. They had several up front as you walk in as well, where they have a rig set up playing COD4 on it with a GTX275.
 
I just got back from the Detroit area Microcenter (a 5 hour 30 minute round trip including the border crossing). I picked up an i7-860 for $229.99 (the i5-750 is $179.99), along with the EVGA P55 FTW motherboard for $229.99. They had quite a few i5-750 and i7-860 processors and motherboards in stock.
 
what, I'm surprised I didn't get an email this week about Saturday availability for i5. maybe I turned off the newsletters/weekely ads without realizing it. though I swear I got one the other day. will swing by the rockville one in a few hours but I might wait for some more comparisons of mobos and 750 vs i7s. I'm so glad the CompUSA left that location and MC showed up.

I got interested in this, but they don't advertise the 920's on the website. Is this an unadvertised special? Need to know before I drive the 150 miles to get the CPU.

I just re-read the thread. The closest store is the Cincy store. So, Dan, do you guys have any of the 920's? If so, I may come up on Wednesday afternoon to get one. I'll check prices on some of the other stuff I need and maybe do some business.

I live in the Cincinnati area and what to see if you guys still have the i7 860 processors in stock? If so I would like to stop up tomorrow or Wednesday and pick a couple of these processors up. Working on a build for myself, and a buddy of mine in interested in the same setup as well. Thanks!!
 
we had like 10 920's on mon. im off until friday thou :( we should have both call up 782-8500 and ask for byopc dept. then when they answer ask about the 920's and 860's we have alot of 750's

Just checked Rockville, thanks to an e-post I got on their latest sale; Rockville and Fairfax have both loaded up (they also lowered Q9550 prices to compensate; otherwise, they'd be forced to eat 755 stocks). As it is, the i7 860 is going to be a REAL tough sell, as it's priced enough above the i7-920 that the older CPU (which still supports HT) makes much more sense. As it is, if youu haven't gone LGA755 yet, *don't*; LGA1156 (or even LGA1366) is a safer bet.

I don't know...ironically enough I took my i5-750 back and traded up to the i7-860 before I made the trip back home. I'm sure the i5 would have been nice enough, but having the extras (HT for photo / video work and Intergrated controllers over the 920 series) in the i7-860 was enough to make me want to upgrade.
 
MICROCENTER can be a mini NEWEGG, if they start offering deals online instead of Instore only.

I ordered a MSI P55 CD-53 motherboard yesterday from MC, and I just got an email saying it's on backorder. WTF! How long until these are in stock? I have my i5 750 and DDR3 coming Friday. Bummer.

Well, as you said, the i7 920s at $199 appears to be solely a traffic-generating product at the moment with negative margins. I have to admit I was one of those that "exploited" that and just got the processor and nothing else (though I did look around for some X58 mobos but I didn't like any of the prices). :(

While I understand that point, and respect the fact that you guys have to pay the bills too, I was a little disappointed that the guys there were trying to push additional warrenties on the CPU / DDR3 / MB that I bought when I live 365 miles away from the place I'm getting it at. I mean, everything I bought had a three year (or lifetime) warrenty, and chances are I would be upgrading again to something better within that time frame.

But anyway, regardless of the pushing, I still wish that it were about 300 miles closer to me so I could just go shop and fondle the hardware without having to buy everything online. :D
 
I am all about MC adding margin on other products and pushing those. That's what keeps them in business. Their existance means I can go somewhere local and get mt fix.

What I don't understand is why doesn't MC do a bundle thing to prevent just buying a CPU there? Give the discount only if purchased with a motherboard, which is what the egg does often. Why isn't it set up that way?

I'm not gonna lie, I might end up getting a CPU at MC but other parts at the egg. Not just because of price but because of the larger selection (and tax free).

I pushed the bundle idea myself but what do i know. you wouldn't believe how many people come in and by the whole box from the ground up so we try and focus on them . They like the big brands , and our limited selection is mostly b/c the vendors wont give us good rates on stuff so we stay with the vendors that take care of us as far as price so we can compete . corsair ocz gigabyte intel and evga very knd to us to keep us able to compete with newegg things like that but we would rather you come in and get just the cpu and nothing else we sell candy cheap flash drives and all kinds of geeky stuff lots come in every day and say i cant believe you guys have all of this ect. it brings in the traffic so you talk to salesmen like me :)
 
As I said in another thread, I was going to only get the i7 920, but did some price checking and ended up getting the M/B, PSU, case, and the i7. I drove a considerable distance but I saved the shipping and the other things I got were equal to or better than the Egg. There were a few things I got from the Egg, but not many.
 
Is there a hardware mounting kit where you can take a s1283 xig and mount it on a socket 1156? I figure the only thing that should change is the mounting kit.

thats the goal :) alot of people will get it all if its close in cost over all just to be gaming that night

each store is different on when they get shipments. we have 8 in cincinnati. You can choose your store up top of microcenter.com and it will tell you if they have any if the mobo doesn't show up its out of stock
 
It is for a shipment, not an in store pickup. I live in Wisconsin. Can you push the order through dan :)
