Hey guys with Taxes coming up I need some Advice. I want to build a Rig around Metro 2033 but im unsure of what kind of Power im going to need since its a really demanding game.

What if any can i use from my current Rig for this build. If nothing what do you think a build like this would Cost. I want to try to get the highest possible settings I can. Dont think of budget but keep it Resonable.

Edit: I dont need a case, Monitor, CPU Cooler or Ram. (Basicly need Mobo, CPU, Video, PSU, SSD). Im obviously not looking to build now im just looking for an estimate on what I would need cash wise. I also want to go Intel + Nvidia on this build

The setup you have now is actually good enough for Metro 2033: That game is not CPU dependent or at least CPU heavy at all. Nor does it scale beyond a single core. All you really have to do is upgrade the video card to something like the HD 6870 and you'll be set.
 
Depends how high you want the graphics really, would advise at least a GTX580 SLi for it on max... but you can scale the graphics down and play on a 5850 if you want.

Also, Metro 2033 is a bit buggy (characters and monsters getting stuck and glitching out) and is very linear and quite short. Good story though.
 
Just finished the game on the rig in my sig. Played on 1920x1080 resolution with all settings high.

Towards the end of the game fps droped to 30 and below but was playable (no noticable lag that was distracting). Note that all is at stock speeds.

What resolution will you game? If it is below 1920x1080, then 6870 might suffice, but with 1080p and above I would look at GTX580 or HD6970 whenever that comes out.

Then the base of the system should be.

8 GB DDR3 (minimum) , you can get 8 gb ddr3 1600 for 130 (But you have Ram right?)
If you wish to splurge, you should be able to land the 2600k for $350.00 (1000/unit price is 317)
Intel 120gb SDD (you want reliability right?) 215 or so
The "core" of your new build comes in at 865, or close to half of the lowend of your budget.

So you have between 635 and 1135 left if you buy memory, or 770 -1265 left if you don't.
Your PSU will be determined by the video card you elect to run.
At the high end, you could get gtx 580 in sli, and pick up a 1000 watt + PSU
infact assuming that the gtx 580 hits availability at msrp , then you should be able to buy a pair of gtx 580's for 1000.00 leaving 265 for a high end psu, such as the corsair ax1200.

But if you're gaming at 1900x1200, or less.
You can get buy with a pair of gtx 460's for 350 or less, and 750w psu (170 or less at the highend corsair ax 750 or sea-sonic x-750, or hx750 if you can find one). That would cost you 520.

If you wanted a bit more performance you could get a pair of gtx 470's in sli for 500, putting you at 670, which is below your budget.

Finally, the safe way, if you intend to play the most strenuous games in the future, and you aren't gaming at 2560x1200, is to pick up a single gtx 580 for around 500, still get the uber higend 1200watt powersupply for 260, and this will place you more or less at 1500, and allow you to upgrade to another card if and when you deem it necessary.

Look at my signature and I play @ 3240 x 1920. On DX10 mode and everything high and the anti at 4x. My FPS range from 67 down to 40. I am still in the beginning of the game dont know if it will get lower in the most action pack scenes. If that gives you an idea. Reason I don't put it in DX11 mode, I get a bug in surround portrait mode that has horizontal lines through out the image. Thats why I play in DX10 mode.
 
ok i left some info out was in a hurry earlier. Right now I run a 4890 wich can handle High with No AA pretty good. Now Danny what do you think. (Driver: 10.10e) I cannot run 10.11 on the 4890 cause the drivers screw with my fan on my GFX card even sometimes shuts my fan off

eh, thread is kind of silly. the game is a good first effort but not good enough to build a system around it.
i'd also wait a couple of weeks to see what the next amd video card does....
 
im not going because of game play im building for Graphics. Metro is one of the best graphical games out today. Id like to come close to maxing it just so I can have the Sexy eye candy. I am not Upgrading or building till 1st week of January also. Im just asking for opinions at at this point. Keep current setup upgrade or build a new Intel Rig.

Hey danny I picked up a 470 Cheap. Im wondering when it arrives am i going to have to upgrade my PSU? im almost thinking Yes. If so ill just snag a 650tx.
 
You'll be fine with your current PSU as long as you don't OC the CPU or GPU any more nor add more than one other hard drive.
 
ok thanks. I am not planning on overclocking anymore then I am. my overclock on my CPU required no voltage tweaks at all and is stable. I am not going to 3.6ghz because I would need to up my voltage.

Thanks tho. I wanted to go with a 6870 but for the price they cost compared to what the 470 i got cost wasnt worth it. I only paid 155 for it
