Just got my system overclocked to where I liked it. Then I thought I would let nTune run it's 3hr "fine tune" application to determine the best oc for your computer. It said it would adjust settings, reboot, etc. The first few reboots were no big deal. After the last reboot however, I cannot get Windows Vista 64bit to boot under any circumstances. I've tried clearing the CMOS, booting just from the DVD, safe mode... I cannot get it to load. I even made sure the Bios settings were not cacheable. It will come up to the "loading windows", with the little progress bar, but gives me a blue screen of death before actually getting into anything. Anyone have any ideas?

UPDATE: I do have 2 hd's. If I unhook the one that has Vista(and ntune) installed, I can get the Vista DVD to boot. Clearly that ntune has something in the Vista registry to set my bios settings to something that it does not like. Looks like I will install vista on the other hd, format the other and re-install Vista on my main hd. :(

UPDATE 2: So I went through the trouble of installing vista on the second hd. Works fine when the other hd is completely disconnected. Even if the problematic drive is lower on boot priority though, when the os tries to load off EITHER hd, the system crashes. Main point is, I cannot get into Vista from DVD/CD or the other HD to reformat this drive. What do I do???

***UPDATE***: Used WD boot disk to write zeros to hd and do fresh install. Problem "solved".

Maybe it corrupted windows. Ive never personally used the software.

Try inserting disk to repair or try reformatting.

Not too sure on this one, in that circumstance though I'd try a format and a fresh Vista install.

Oh, and don't use nTune :p

When you cleared the cmos did you pull the power plug from the wall and leave the jumpers in the clear position for 10 minutes?

I did not unplug it from the wall. But I do not think that is the issue since everything will load fine if the hard drive with ntune is not connected. Anything else???? I refuse to believe I killed this hard drive. :(

I havent messed with ntune a whole lot, after the first instal it crashed my XP(32) system forcing a reformat after several attempts to reset CMOS and reconfigure the BIOS settings. I tried ntune one last time with much of the same results. I would bet that MisterSparkle is right though, sounds like a format, fresh instal is in order. Good luck!

Ntune is TERRIBLE... i use atitool for OC'ing under XP, or Rivatuner for OCing under vista.... ntune just sucks

There is the possibility that the drive was going bad to begin with and this episode either pushed it overboard or the drive just decided to go bad at this point. I've had a problem where a bad DVD ROM would cause serious instability in my system just by being hooked up. After I disconnected the drive I had no trouble at all.

It could also be something badly corrupted on the drive which was caused by ntune pushing things too far. It wouldn't be the first time something like this has happened. An unstable overclock will do this easily which is one of the reasons why I find my overclock first thing. I load up a very basic Windows installation and do my stress testing with that. If I screw it up, I'm not really out too much time (compared to the triple boot setup I normally use). It's not until I find my stable overclock that I get all my OSes and software installed.

You might want to try moving the drives around to different ports. I'm assuming you're using SATA drives which should make it easy. You might also want to try different cables. This could be a hardware problem rather than a software problem. You could also grab a live CD Linux distro and see if that messes up on you. If it's a hardware problem with the drive, then I would think that it would also mess up with the Live CD. If it's a software problem with the drive, there is a chance that the Live CD won't be affected, even if the live CD will mount and access NTFS drives.
