Hi All,

I'm currently using 2gb (2x1gb) of Corsair Dominator 1066 pc8500
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145043

I've been wanting to upgrade to 4gb for a while since I anticipate going 64-bit with Windows 7.

I just ordered 4gb (2x2gb) of Corsair XMS2 DDR2 800 pc2 6400
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145241

Will this upgrade be worthwhile to go from 2gb of 1066 memory to 4gb of 800 memory or would I be better off paying more for 2x2gb of 1066 memory? With the rebate I'm only going to pay $35 for the upgrade so it seems worth it but I figured I'd ask the experts while I can still cancel it.

Edit: I should note that memory channel A in my P5N32 is dead so I run both sticks in channel B and lose out on dual channel. Single stick options cost more than dual so I opted to go with the 2x2gb.

You should see a nice improvement from 2gb of 1066 to 4gb of 800. At that amount of RAM the size is more important than the speed. Honestly, going from 800 to 1066 won't net you any real time performance. With that said, I see a lot of 1066 2x2gb DDR2 going for around 40 bucks AR so if 5 bucks isn't a lot to you, you might as well get the 1066. Just make sure your mobo supports RAM at that speed.

I'm running 1066 atm though not in dual channel.

Where have you seen 1066 that cheap from a good manufacturer? I've only used Corsair in my last 3 builds and have always been satisfied so I tend to look at them for a deal. Right now memory is 15% off, then there is $5 instant off, then there is a $20 mail-in rebate.

I think that makes it $27 all told. Pretty sick deal imo.

You will notice more of a difference when going from 2GB to 4GB than when upgrading from DDR2 800 to DDR2 1066.

personally I didn't notice that big a difference when I went from 2-4 GBs of memory. I don't think I've ever cracked 2GB used on this computer. The only game that I play that might is World of Warcraft. TF2 and the lot sure don't use that much memory.

I went from 4 to 8GB and noticed the computer is a bit peppier.

OCZ had some 1066 ram for $40 or so AR at newegg.
I bought a pair of Kingston Hyper-X 1066 for $45 shipped from newegg last week.

I upgraded from a 512x2 dual channel to 2x3 tri-channel and its amazing! Yet this has nothing to do with the thread but yeah overall more ram should benefit you more then 1066
