memory - timings vs speed

Hi, my current system is running at 3 GH with a 1332 FSB. I am trying to get the optimal speed out of my memory. I can run it with a 3:2 linked divider to bring the ram to 444 MHz (DDR888) keeping the 4-4-4-12-2T timings with the vDimm at 2.27 (or something close to that anyway).

I tried a 5:4 linked divider for 533MHz (DDR1066), with timings of 5-5-5-15-2T, trc 24 and a vDimm of 2.35 but although the system posted, windows hung on startup two out of two times.
Should I stick with 888 and call it a day or is there another option for getting a faster memory speed. IF I loosen the timings more would I lose from the loser timings anything that I may have gained in RAM speed?
Thanks for any help…my specs are below.
Coolermaster Conros 1000 with 6 120mm fans
Thermaltake V1 CPU Cooler
Asus P5N-E SLi
E6600 at 3 GH (FSB at 1332)
BFG 8800 GTS OC 320MB @ 600 Core and 850 mem
2 Gig of corsair cm2x1024-6400c4
Audogy 2 ZS
Seagate 400 GB Sata 3

at 533MHz a clock "tick" lasts 1.876ns A Trc of 24 "ticks" is about 45ns. That is significantly under (as in, not allowing enough time for ) the 55ns listed in the rams SPD programming for minimum Trc. Set that back to auto until you can see what the top end in speed is, then investigate the sub timings.

Unlink your memory so you can quit using dividers/mulitpliers, set it directlry for more fine control.

See my sig same memory, 2 sticks I bought a year ago, and I have another 2 sticks I just installed in another machine, both will do 960MHz 5 4 4 12 @ 2.1V and 1000MHz at 5 5 5 15 @2.1. Maybe I got lucky but I dont think so, leave all the sub timings on auto the only place you will ever see a difference is in a benchmark somewhere, I did on my machine reduce Trfc REfresh Cycle Time to 42 (was 56 on auto)

Thanks BillPArish,

Have it at 1000 with the settings you suggested. Orthos for 30 minutes stable so far. Thanks. The TRC setting of 24 was suggested somewhere else and to be honest I have absolutely no idea what it does.

woo hooo. nice. Frankly unless you like to mess with it for the fun of messing with it you are probally good. I have spend hours and hours with sub timings and frankly it is mainly wasted time for a 10th of a percent increase in some benchmark. That nice high speed is getting you 99.9% of the performace you are going to get.

Do stick a finger on the side of heat spreader during a game. At 2.1V you will NOT void the warranty, corsair will let you go that high, no higher. If you cannot count to 5 with your finger on the ram consider some way of getting air blowing on them for long life. Lifetime warranty but even tye-wraping a fan somewhere or buying either the OCZ or Corsiar "ram fan thingies" is a lot less trouble than haveing your machine down for 2 weeks and shipping ram back to be replaced. Just something to check, dont get too conerned, they will get pretty warm, just make sure they are not hot.

Could you elaborate on this relationship?
