For some reason or another after I received my new 6600gt from BFG my system has been experiencing slow downs and lag when trying to acccess media programs, specifically Quicktime and Windows Media....anyone have an idea why this may be?

I just recently did a drivers cleanup for the card and installed Nvidia's current released drivers. I doubt it's my system, from reading my sig you probably wouldn't expect it.

Any thoughts?

What kind of card did you have before? No slowdowns with same system prior to 6600GT?

Well I ended up overheating my BFG 6600gt a week ago. I called them up and had it RMA'd. It is the exact same card. Last night however I was told I should clean it's drivers before installing Nvidia's newly released ones...which I did. However I was experiencing this problem before I removed my old Nvidia drivers.

It's very strange, Quicktime, Windows Media (have yet to try realplayer), slow my system down considerably. It takes me almost 30 seconds to scroll down one page...it's extremely laggy. Once I exit out of those programs my pc returns to it's normal states and is very fast.

Does anyone know the prefered or usual temps for system and cpu's?

My system is idling at 37C
My CPU is idling at 40C

Is that normal or pretty hot?

Those temps are hardly anything to worry about. It happens with *any* media? Such as .MOV and .AVI? Does it do it with MP3?

Also, what drivers are you using? If you are using anything 77.xx, try an older set.. unless you are using official.

So far it only slows up my system when I try using Windows Media and Quicktime to watch clips. However my Musicmatch program seems to work fine and does not slow my system down. I only have the official drivers released by Nvidia as well. I really have no idea what the problem is...

Again does anyone know how to check for a possible memory leak?

Well I just tried NVDVD (Nvidia dvd) and I received the same lag in my system that I received with other video related programs.

I fear it is my video card. Perhaps I did not uninstall the previous drivers correctly. I have to say that I find the driver cleaner program to be quite confusing. Would anyone suggest me deleting the current drivers and doing a fresh install of the video card?

Just open Driver Cleaner and select NVIDIA from the drop down (If that's what you had before), and hit start. You may want to select NVIDIA WDM and clean that too.

Uninstall the driver then run the DC, and reboot. Then install the new driver.

I just finished cleaning the drivers by using the Driver Cleaner tool, and came to find that I had successfully completed cleaning. However it seems there are several files not found. I was curious if this will have any effect on compatability with the new drivers that I will install?

You should be ok. It may have looked for files that your drivers didn't have to begin with. Instead of installing the drivers from the CD, make sure you download from the official site.

You may want to re-install your motherboard drivers as well.

Hmm well after installing the new drivers and rebooting, it seems I have the same problem as before, while trying to access quicktime, windows media, and Nvidia DVD, my system becomes uncontrollably laggy.

Anyone else have any ideas?

Man, that's wierd. If it was a temperature problem, it would screw you over in games for sure. It just sounds like something needs to be re-installed..

Good luck on fixing it.. if I think of something else, I will let you know.
