Donnie: Price is so subjective that nothing I say would convince you that AMD is cheaper, so whatever.
That aside, AMD uses an LGA for Socket F because the twisted pins are necessary for higher speed signals, i.e. high speed buses. I don't recall AMD ever "bagging on" the idea of LGA, but if you could point to me a press release where they did, I'd be happy to read it.
