i use 100-2000 grit but the blocks didnt need more then 2000 grit they were pretty good to begin with, i also have rubbing compound that i use to take it even farther but havent tried it yet, i usualy just do 2000 until it looks like this:boasist said:what kit or materials do you use for such a fine lapping?

thats no rubbing compound, thats about a hour of 2000 grit(probably ended up being finer after a few heat sinks, i use the same paper to finish off every lapping job, who knows how fine it actualy is now that i wore it away lol), thanks for the information, ill never try out using rubbing compoundDarkenReaper57 said:I was under the impression that rubbing compounds on the bottom of a heatsink hinder thermal dissipation. Sure, it looks really nice, but that polish gets deep into the microscopic grooves where your thermal paste should be filling.
The bottom of that heatsink does look nice, though.

can i pick this up at home depot, lowes, aco, or are we talking hobby store, or special order only.
