Maximum PC ends print publication

I used to subscribe but it was called Boot. I did read a few after the name change. Sad to see them go.

Legit sad about as I've been paying since it was boot and had recently paid for Maximum PC and PC Gamer for the next 5 years LoL.

It was one of the few things I legit really looked forward to over anything else. PC Gamer was just games and is ....

I am pretty sad they are now RIP. Felt they would survive.

I've been a subscriber since 1998. I think the beginning of the end was when the US economy nose-dived, and they shifted their focus away from "Kick-Ass Products" and "Best of the Best" to more affordable and attainable products.

Recently, they've been playing musical chairs with the leadership positions. Red flag! Just like a job, when management starts changing frequently, it's time to jump ship.

I've also found that the content has been lacking in up to date news and articles that actually interest me. I understand that print media requires weeks if not months of preparation, but by the time ink hits paper, it's already old hat.

With on demand headlines through services like Google News, and YouTube channels such as Jayztwocents, Linus Tech Tips, and Gamer's Nexus, the value and relevance of print media has plummeted.

I was seriously considering ending my subscription and the cessation of printing may be the tipping point for me.

Was subbed for over 20 years. I have every print issue of those last 20 years. I had PDF backups of some but I am downloading the archive that is up to Oct 2014 now. The good news is that once I have that archive backed up I can finally clear out all my copies pre 2014.

I used to have all the print issues also. It was so nostalgic to read through them. Although I recycled them all in exchange for basement space lol

Kinda hard not to miss a well researched, edited, well written pieces that took a month to cook vice today's almost daily force feed YouTube snippets that has as much weight or validity of a feather that flys off the very next day. Some of the YouTube channels have cornered themselves with expensive laboratories, equipment, personnel, costly buildings and studio's and yet put out gibberish pieces for what ever income they can get. Not to mention stores with way overpriced made in China merchandise. Getting more cringy as time goes on in general.

I also see an end to the parade of YouTubers when people finally get tired of listening to nothing. Thought VR would be more prevalent, where you get to hold, look at and even test real cards for yourselves in a session (while streaming the content from actual hardware). See how something works in your favorite game or games first in other words, at least a good feel for it. Rent out a 4090 for a few days and run it through its paces and leave comments, buy and what not as an example.

There are a few good techtube channels. But the majority are rubbish. Back in the days of written reviews, the same was true of those. We still have fpsreview trying to do good reviews. They just have a smaller budget and/or time constraints (I suspect). Probably the most useful written reviews to me these days would be for PSU's. They do a good job at those, but there are not all that many of those reviews yet. But I hope they can make it work and keep good written reviews alive.
I suspect the youtube reviews will be around for the foreseeable future. If anything, vendors marketing teams will keep them alive. infomercials.

PC Gamer is still sending out print issues. I get it every month. You guys should subscribe so I can keep getting it, I love it.
