Can anyone give a quick comparison of their thoughts on Max Payne 3 on the 360? I can easily run it on my PC, but might prefer it on the XBox, as long as the game works well on the controller, and the framerate is decent (compared to say, Fable 2, where I felt the framerate never got above 20, and it basically gave me a headache.)

    Thanks!

Considering the hardware in your sig I'm utterly mystified at this thread.

You can run the game essentially maxed out. I can assure that the eye candy is LIGHT years ahead of what the consoles can do. After that, you can use a controller if you insist.

Not sure what else to tell you. For you PC should be the no brainer choice every time with sweet hardware like that if the choice is available.

You can go on youtube and see plenty of comparison footage.

I would consider investing in a wired Xbox360 controller, or a wireless 360 controller with the PC adapter. They range from being the same price as the 360 controller to $10 cheaper, and they're compatible with the console too.

You may also be able to find the wireless adapter for your PC sold separately. I have seen a few on Amazon, but haven't found any in retail stores.

    This x 1000!

    I ran this game maxed out DX11 8xAA @ 1080p at like a constant 100+fps.

Just get a 360 controller and be done with it...Xbox version...really?!

This isn't a question of where it looks best, this is a question of whether it's worth using my puny 24" monitor, or enjoy my 50" plasma :D

I clicked the picture in your signature and thought to myself "oh hey, I've seen that pic before".

And now I remember where. We have the same monitor! That's your problem rampant. This monitor blows.

Unwilling to move my PC to the TV (space issues, since I will still want a desk) and I don't want something with a stationary image on my plasma :)

I've considered running a long HDMI cable along the base boards, but never got around to it.

This is a simple "does this game offer anything on PC other than better graphics, that the XBox version does not offer." :)

Probably just the better graphics and smoother game play due to the higher powered machine vs. console.

Maybe it's good art direction, but Max Payne 3 has some of the best graphics I've seen in any PC game. It was definitely breathtaking at times.

I can't really imagine playing that on a console now that I've played it at 120hz 1080p with all maxed settings. Just amazing. Rockstar really did a good job with the visuals on this one.

Also, the 360 version (and I guess PS3 as well) run it at 30 fps instead of 60 fps.

There are a lot of fake wireless adapters out there, so it's safer to just buy the kit and if you don't need to controller, just sell it.

Seems like OP already knew his answer before making the thread. If anyone had the money to buy a rig like that and put it together, they should be able to understand what the trade-off is. Framerate, graphics power, and more. But I guess if he built a rig like that and is only using a 24...then maybe I am completely wrong.. lol.

Not everyone wants to sit at a desk when they play games. I've recently rediscovered console gaming, which I can do on my bigass TV while I lounge on the couch. Totally worth the tradeoff in graphics.

I know, I could drag my PC out to the living room and hook it up to the TV, but that's a pain in the neck, given that I'll need it in my office again within a day or so.

Edit: I agree with the others though, why you'd spend that kind of bank on a fast PC if you're just going to play console games is beyond me.

I think it also comes down to personal preference. When I was a little kid I enjoyed consoles more than PC games. However with the modding community, PC game was more enticing to me, still is in some areas and some projects. However with big game pushers stripping out all of the cool mod tools; it's kinda shit.

I have a 360, Wii and PS3. As far as I'm concerned, this is all they're good for.

What's with all the mongoloids who seem to think you can't plug a pc into your television? You can use a variety of controllers on your PC as well as Xbox controllers if you want to sit your fat ass on a couch.

Because that's not where the PC lives (usually). you have to drag the PC out into the living room, which means that it is no longer in the office. You can obviously drag it back, but that's a pain in the neck if you have to do it every time.

Obviously, you could get two PCs, but if you want a fast one, that's a hell of a lot more costly than a console, and you've likely sacrificed the single biggest advantage it had in the first place, which is the more complex control scheme.

I didn't have to move my PC. I ran a really long cable. I have an interesting setup to use a KB/mouse with my TV but it works well enough for me to start a game. I can then revert to using an xbox controller as needed.

Apparently you are unfamiliar with a thing called a HDMI cable. You may have had someone set up your computer monitor and tv in the past, but I am confident that you can probably figure out how to plug a cable into the tv.

Who knows, maybe I expect too much of people :D

    This.

Batman = better on 360, for example. Why? I love my couch. I have my PC for multiplayer gaming, really. And RPGs. Used to use it with MMOs, but after TOR, I'm finished with MMOs.

Point is, the PC is used for some gaming, but also gets used for side projects - encoding video, photography, compiling code etc...don't assume you know why this PC is as powerful as it is. :)

And once again at people talking about PC + TV, I have a plasma. So, no. No TV + PC, at least not for the desktop.

I have the impression that Max Payne 3 leaves the consoles further in the dust than most other ports.

Hmm, I've been enjoying MP3 on my 50" plasma on my HTPC and it's awesome! Get a long HDMI cable from monoprice and plug that computer into your plasma.

+10 I've had folks over and when they saw MP3 on my HTPC they couldn't believe what they were seeing. "That's not an XBOX 360 is it? The graphics are so damn crisp and detailed!". Of course I get a nice little grin on my face and confirm that it's a PC running the game. :D

I'd love to see the game runnng at full settings on PC. I have the 360 version rented and it still manages to impress me and look great, especially the attention to little details like 9mm bullets bouncing off the enemies' kevlar vests. The framerate struggles during cutscenes however, and the controls aren't great. Really miss the mouse in games like this.

The 360 version would amost certainly look much better than on my PC with its brilliant future-powered 8600GT...:D

8600GT? Yikes, yeah XBOX 360 FTW in that case.

On my HTPC (Phenom x4 945, 4GB, SSDs, AMD 7970 stock running the game at max settings with FXAA) I don't see any performance issues while playing except for the jungle level and I think I had AA turned up too high at the time (8xAA + FXAA). No cutscene glitching, no hitching during gameplay, nada, it's buttery smooth.

I think the game looks great in general regardless of the platform.

I think it's because I have unusually high blood pressure due to stress and being annoyed by little things, but why do you keep mentioning that your computer is an HTPC? Why not just say "My desktop" or "My PC".

    Sorry, continue on.

He's mentioning it is a HTPC because he's supporting his assertion that PC in his home theater is better than a console. "HTPC" is easier to say than "My PC that's connected to my home theater".

Personally I like my HTPC for home theater movies/TV/music, if I want to game it's either console or my desktop PC.
