So you guys who have the game - what do you think?

I've played for just one hour, but my first impressions are entirely positive. For once a sequel to a great game isn't just living up to the original, it's surpassing it. The engine is simply beautiful to look at - the colors are deeper, the geometry is cleaner, the character's faces are more detailed, their animations are smoother and more lifelike... it's just a much better looking, and playing engine than what we saw from the original game.

Quite an impressive start here - I'm really looking forward to playing this one... slowly. Potential game of the year here, I think.

Well i just beat ME2 with 100% explored and all quests done... Took about 24 hours or so which is amazing because the last game that i invested as much time in was uncharted 1/2 and ME1.. Other than that i barely game any more.

To be honest i loved the game, it was extremely polished in many ways, i ran into maybe 2 or 3 bugs that made me restart from a
save point, but other than that everything seems polished.

I really enjoyed how your past actions in ME1 blended in with this game and affected a few instances and characters, that was pretty cool.

Another strong point was the character selection, each character had a lot of depth and was interesting in different ways.

The last boss fight was   BUT IT WAS SO SIMPLE. Honestly it didn't even require much effort at all which was very disappointing, i was hoping to die a few times like during ME1.

But every game has its shortcomings, and some things really disappointed me.

-Almost every RPG element has been dumbed down to the limits, no longer can you find 30 different armor types with different models and different feats. Same goes with weapons, everything is linear when it comes to these, and basically you next weapon is in front of you somewhere between each couple of missions. I do think that it was a right direction in reguards to weapons and upgrading them, but i felt like there was a lack of selection. There are only about 5 selections for each armor type (head, arms, chest, legs) and some look exactly the same. While this can be seen as a + since you dont have 100 different armor and weapon types, it makes the game feel very dull. I really liked putting all this badass armor and weapons on every different crew member. The idea worked well for upgrading and managing weapons but i wish there was more selections.

-The whole game is basically setting the story for ME3, so even though there seems to be a lot of material, this feels like a light meal to digest. I honestly didn't feel like i was advancing much, when the game was over it felt like i just took the first step into the game, feels like a lot is missing. Towards the middle of the game it became extremely repetitive, might have different missions but the point of each mission was the same. When one of your crew members wants to talk to you, you already know whats coming up next.:bleh:

-The citadel and basically every other main city have been dumbed down as well, no more HUGE citadel to run through, very limited access and there is almost no need to even have the citadel in this game since you really dont do much there. Very disappointing because it makes the game world feel a lot smaller even though there is much more to explore.

For some reason I never got to make any romance with anyone that I was interested in. I had a chance with one who i wont mention for spoiler purposes which i didint really care for, and another time with a male scientist which i immediately slapped in the face and rejected :p I was hoping to romance with Miranda but that didn't happen even after the game ended she just denied me and said theres a lot of work needed to be done no time for chatter. :'(

Maybe some of this was because of my imported ME1 save file.

Overall the game was fun and interesting, now we just gotta wait for the next chapter of this story to unfold. Im going to play through on hardcore, since once you beat the game it lets you transfer your character with its level and weapons to a new game. Also once the game is out officially im going to install the DLC so i can see if it added any more interesting stuff.

The very last decision you have in the game will probably affect you enormously in ME3 so im going to play through again because i feel like i made a mistake with that decision.

I agree with you 100%. Awesome game, I am playing it slow and going through as many side quests as possible. I really like that they made the side quests worth doing in this game, and that sending probes to the planets to get minerals is actually really helpful. Overall this is a major improvement to an already great game. If you liked the first, you will love the second. They did take away from the micromanaging of armor and weapons, which I personally think was a major improvement, but I am sure it will anger others who will say it was dumbed down for consoles (which I don't think it is, as I am playing the PC version).

The PC is really starting to pull away - based on what I'm seeing at 1920x1080, there's just no way that a console can compete with this.

The game was developed with consoles in mind. The sense of progression suffers the same fate as Bioshock's did. ME1's item system was certainly not award winning stuff, but they went to the complete other extreme by essentially completely removing the inventory system. There's virtually no sense of customization in the game besides picking your class at the very beginning. Everybody uses the same weapons at the same times. I used that stupid ass assault rifle from Omega for about 10 hours of the game before finding another one.

This game is great. I'm even liking it better than the first. Though, it's kind of strange to play a Bioware game that is basically a third person shooter. The RPG elements have been all but eliminated, but that's made in a more pleasurable experience, IMHO. At least they lived up to their reputation and have made an incredible back story and universe. I haven't really done any exploring, but that's because I'm really interested in the main story. Once I beat it, I'll go though it again and accomplish all the side quest. Can't wait to finish it with my renegade and see how much shit I can f-up.

Fantastic game. Combat much improved. Wish they hadn't removed some of the RPG elements (loot and stats).

I'm spending most of my first few hours just swiveling the camera around my character, and admiring the game-world - I can't believe that a game has finally lived up to the hype, for once.

Okay, stupid question of the month.

I've downloaded Blood Dragon Armor and The Collector's Armor. So where the heck is it? I was informed that the Blood Dragon Armor would be in my inventory. But what inventory? What are they talking about? I see no inventory in this game anywhere?

I hated ME1 but ME2 was simply brilliant. Honestly one of the best games I've ever played.

I LOVE TALI ZORAH VAS NORMANDY!!!!!!!!! <3<3<3

Wow, in starting this thread, I had assumed I was asking for people's opinions of the first hour or so of gameplay - but most of you guys have actually finished the game, even though it's only been released for a couple of hours?

I just wasn't... expecting that.

They would have to completely overhaul the inventory system from ME1 for it to not be so monotonous. The inventory system in ME1 was my least favorite part of the game, it was one of the worst I've ever dealt with.

Go figure. I was actually expecting that.

The EA Store released hard copies early - they actually sent them out on Friday night. But apparently they also broke their own release for the digital version. People who purchased online copies from the EA Store were unlocking this afternoon.

Looks like only D2D and Steam and EB Games or Gamestop played by the rules. Ah well, you guys will get your copies tomorrow. (Or rather, today, I should say - I haven't gone to bed yet, so for me tomorrow hasn't arrived yet. LOL.)

Me, I'm only an hour and a half in - but ME 2 has surpassed my expectations. Just a gorgeous game that already has me in its clutches. I can't wait for the weekend, when I can really sink my teeth into this.

ME2 , from me being about 50% in, is way simplified from ME1 and I don't like it...

So far it seems like the whole story is revolving around building the team, it's not too bad, but is getting monotonous. Lack of weapon/inventory customization is disconcerting to say the least.

Engine is way more optimized and I like the fast paced combat a lot more then in ME1.

Good game, on level with ME1. Some things were improved, some things were dumbed down too much.

ME2 is great

but.. it could be much better if they didnt make it so console oriented

the thing I loved the most at ME1 was the ability to toggle your helmet at any given time. Im so dissapointed they took that one out of ME2

So what class have everyone played as? On ME1 I played through as an Infiltrator and Adept. Adept was pretty fun because of barrier, lift, push, etc. but I could only use a pistol through the entire game. :(

Probably play through as the same classes. ;0

On ME1 I played a soldier after realizing the game ends when you get killed , no matter if you had the rest of the squad alive

since the AI tended to suck at getting good cover position I decided to go with the most defensive class and get biotics as squadmates so they are the ones doing the spells while I focus on surviving and flanking

It's better in ME2 actually, you find multiple helments and can choose from them. They're actually a piece of armor now.

This game has so many flaws when compared to ME1:
Lack of inventory, lack of item stats, lack of a "Compare" button for upgrades, short (incoherent) story, poor ending: Both the ending of the story, the final boss, and the strategy on the final level (no spoilers).

The only thing I really enjoyed about this game over ME1 was the combat, I play Soldier only, though.
The duck-and-cover system works better, the aiming system is better, HEADSHOTS EXIST NOW, and the slow-mo skill is amazing, and the AI is way better.

The dialog quality is the same, graphics are very similar regardless of what people say. Play through ME1 again and you'll see the graphics are closely the same.

Balancing the pro's and con's, I would actually dare to say this game is overall worse than ME1.

You guys have beat it already with 100% explored? Wow that is pretty lame if the game is that easy and quick then I will just wait for it drop in price. What ever happened to making things challenging... It seems all video games are going casual...

Yeah it's really short, it doesn't have the planet exploration like ME1 did.
You don't actually 'land' on any of the planets. If anything of significance exists on the planet (IE; Things you can explore) the game takes you directly to them. They're like little mini-missions, less than 10 minutes to complete.

There's also fewer planets in total.
My advice is to play this game on the hardest difficulty, as long as you're not a total newb with video games. The extra combat challenge will probably make the game last longer. It was incredibly easy on Normal difficulty. :(

The best part in the game is the amount of decisions you did in ME1 that have been transferred to ME2. Whether in a background conversation, the news vids, a side quest, or a main quest, I was being constantly bombarded with people from ME1 that I have directly affected, it felt so amazing. And the return of Elcor Hamlet, YES!!!!!

The game is amazing obviously, but there are some points I don't exactly "love".

In ME2 they scrapped the inventory system in favor of the newer upgrade system. I completely understand the reason. In ME1, you spent too much time managing your inventory, the majority of stuff you found was useless, and it was tedious to switch between ammo types. Despite all these flaws, I really liked the feel of the inventory system in ME1, it really felt like I was playing an RPG managing my inventory and picking up new items. In ME2 I was just going through the ropes buying whatever new upgrade was available. Granted upgrades were really expensive in the beginning, but later I had enough money I could buy whatever was available. I would have preferred an improved ME1 inventory rather than ME2's system. Improved ME1 inventory > ME2 inventory > ME1 inventory, IMO.

The planet scanning method to obtain resources is boring as hell. I played immediately on hardcore with my imported character and had to scan a shitload of planets to afford upgrades because some of the missions were getting seriously hard (The first collector mission was a challenge, the 2nd collector mission's first battle was fucking hard). I wish there were more variety to find resources in the game, the planet scanning would have been more tolerable then (finding resources in missions don't count, you get such an insignificant amount).

Very little variety in picking skills. The only good part in ME2's skill selection is the two modifiers you can pick in the final level. I would have liked to see ME1's variety of skills combined with ME2's final skill level modifiers.

Other than those points, this game is completely awesome and will probably play through the game 3-4 more times.

No, I think people are playing it to beat it. Not so much playing it to enjoy it. Which to me seems to be the case for people who bash a game. I mean seriously over the half people posting on it beat it already. It comes out yesterday (if you were lucky and got it from EA) or today for most. It's at least a 20 hours game, so unless someone no lifed it, stayed up all night, and missed work/school to play it...

Mine will be here tomorrow, or Thursday. I can't fully say I disagree with everyone because I haven't played it. Just seen some vids and read a lot about it.

Remember it's supposed to be a trilogy too. ;)

I fully expect this and AC2 to be my personal Games of the Year. I'll get my copy of ME2 later today and when I come up for air I'll come back to this thread. :)

I have mixed emotions here. I like it, but there's stuff that really irritates me. The way they continued the storyline from ME1 is just retarded. I actually played the last half of ME1 again with one of my old save games, just so I could level up my character and get back into the story. That was pointless since your character level and skill don't carry over, and you lose your squad from ME1 (with a few exceptions). Then there's no inventory screen or even an inventory for that matter anymore, that probably irritates me the worst of all. It's definitely been dumbed down for the consoles.

That said, the game is beautiful, the story is still pretty compelling, and the combat is much better (and way freakin harder IMO). I just wish they'd kept more of the rpg elements, I feel like I'm playing GOW (or any other over the shoulder TPS). If I wanted to play GOW, I'd have played GOW.

I guess I just feel like it's lost some of the charm of the original.

Without spoiling anything at all, am I missing out not having the collector's edition? I don't care about armour/weapons, but I do care about missions and areas.

I'm waiting for my amazon non-collectors order to come in the mail, so I know nothing about the game.

Hacking/ lockpicking minigames are a pox Chest bash mod, anyone?

Anyone else besides me make the apparent mistake of redeeming your Cerberus Network code on the website with the other codes instead of doing it in game and thus being SOL like I am right now?

The first game was exclusive to the 360 for a while.

Keep in mind, this isn't meant to be Dragon Age in space. I'm glad they made it into more of a shooter because some of the RPG elements in ME1 were clunky as hell (especially the inventory).

I did it for Dragon Age. Same exact problem. You should call support. There's a chance that the person you talk to won't help. If so, ask for their manager if they can't help. Be insistent. Perhaps refer to the same Dragon Age problem that happened where people registered on the social site before they registered ingame. They CAN free up your key again.

Yes - that's exactly what I did.

What does SOL mean though. I think I might be SOL as well. I typed in the code at the website, and now, in-game, when I re-type the code all it says is that the code is already in use.

Am I screwed? If you solve this problem, post back, please.

Shit Outta Luck.

I waited TWICE for a half an hour on EA's shitty support site for a live chat and the thing cancels out at the end says NO agents are available. I'll bet.

So I sent an email to their support about this and we'll see if I get an answer in 24 hours or not.

What a waste of time. I've wasted well over an hour on this nonsense when I could have been playing. And now I'm going to finally play. The hell with it.

People already complaining that's been "dumbed down" for the consoles.

Just fucking amazing.

They make some changes that actually made the game better and people are bitching about it and blaming "TEH EVIL CONSOLeZ"

I honestly wonder why the fuck I even come here anymore, everyone seems to have lost their damn mind.

I agree, people should not legally be allowed to have their own opinions. When someone with an opinion speaks up, we should ship them off to a prison work camp.

Perhaps you can use my last tissue.

I just created a thread at the official forum about incorrectly entering the Cerebus code thing - it'll drop off the board in about a second though, because there's so much activity there.

I don't think it matters too much though. The game is great, from what little I played of it last night. The people doing the most complaining seem to be the ones who have already finished the game - and have spent more than 30 hours playing. Yeah, except that the game was just released today. LOL!

One guy at the official forum wrote a huge post in which he complained about virtually everything - and even said that he thought the first game was much better looking. Wow!

You seem to get that with certain people though, who will play a game literally 24 times in a row. They fall in love with a particular game, and unless the next game is exactly like it, they'll say that it's crap.

This is the reason people are still playing games like King's Quest or Quest For Glory. They just won't let go.

I think ME1 appealed to a lot of people due to its RPG elements. They've really watered down the RPG elements to the point where it's little more than a tactical shooter, so naturally you're going to lose a lot of fans. I know I'll probably pass this one over.

I'm playing ME1 again before I re-run ME2 for the second time.
I can't wait to finish ME1, playing it is like torture compared to ME2. But having the inventory back (and all that comes with it) is refreshing. But the combat is just god awful.
