So I'm new to the forum and would love to get a little advice from the pros. I'm building a sff. The goal is to run a steady 100+ fps on counter strike source locked on high graphics. I built a matx but unfortunately will have to sell it due to the size. If anyones interested in it let me know I'm unable to post a fs thread due to my post count. This time around I'd like to run an itx case / mobo with a i5 2500k. this would be the perfect size for carry on luggage. Heres what I have picked out. Let me know what you guys think. Yes, I'd like to overclock it.

anyhow, as I mentioned earlier, that CPU cooler will not allow the installation of a GPU with that motherboard. Honestly, the stock cooler on the Sandy Brigde CPUs are good enough, as is. Just a lither louder than better aftermarket coolers.

The GPU you ordered is a lither overpriced for it's performance, however, that's the only real nVidia option at that price range. The RAM you have is okay, but I've never used Wintec ram - I have a habit of sticking with Corsair, G.Skill, Patriot, Mushkin.
 
it'a more of which HS can you use :p

The Samuel 17, Shuriken Rev.B, and AXP 140 all fit with clearnce for the GPU :)

there's not going to be any overclocking with that motherboard. you need a P67 chipset, which doesn't exist in a mini-ITX form factor. i would go with the regular i5-2500 instead of the unlocked "K" version to save a few bucks, unless you plan on upgrading the motherboard if a P67 or Z68 mini-ITX mobo ever gets released.

also, you dont have a hard drive or SSD in your cart yet :p:
 
Step up to a GTX560ti and go with an i5-2400S.

TDP:
+54W for the GTX560ti
-30W for the i5-2400s

For only 24W more you'll get much better graphics performance and similar CPU performance.

I don't know about Counter Strike Source, but I found myself running too low on RAM at 4GB with World of Warcraft and upgraded to 8GB.
Consider 8GB (2 x 4GB).

If you can find one, the AXP-140 has the greater cooling potential.

Forget the HDD, go SSD, and maybe you want an ODD... or not.

That build will laugh at cs:source at high... no issues I see. The shuriken rev. B should do too
 
yep. You *may* need to bend the stock mounting system a little to give better clearance, or use electrical tape to cover the side of the heatsink :)

The clearance is very tight. Only 1-2mm without bending the mounting legs (which you may do in order to give more clearance - it's what I did, for that matter. Now has enough clearnace to allow a GPU backplate to fit :D)
 
If you want a better graphics card at a lower price, I suggest going with a B-stock (refurbished) EVGA GTX 460 768MB model. You can get one for $119. Yes, they are refurbished and only come with a 90 warranty, but they are a heck of a deal for the price. I'm writing this from a computer built around a Sugo SG05BB-450, i5-2400, and one of those GTX460 cards. Works just fine.
 
Looking at the current list the ram is completely pointless & so is the k series CPU.. Drop the CPU to a regular 2500 or even 2400 & get a 8gb kit of 1333 Mhz.. Also there is a sticky to answer that will allow us to make much much better recommendations (its at the top of this forum).

Edit: all these parts have already been mentioned, but it would get you better overall performance & a lower price. ram cpu & gpu..

Your current build list has a few things that make no sense like 1600 mhz ram, a slower, but more expensive video card & a k series cpu that will not gain you any noticable performance over the slightly slower, but 35 dollar cheaper 2400 when overclocking is out based on mobo FF. Also I personally wouldn't pay 115 for that gigabyte board. I dont mind paying a premium for features, but in the h67 chipset that gigabyte has only usb 3.0 over the 70 dollar foxconn other then the gigabyte name (if you were overclocking it would be worth the premium to get an asus or gigabyte, but at stock its not worth it). All of this can be put towards something more usefull like a SSD or possibly higher end video card.

Dont be down. Takes a lot of thought to build a machine to fit your purpose. And with this many people, you will get lots of info, sometimes conflicting. Personal preferences usually. Best bet is to open the thread titled "so you want help", copy and paste the questions here, then answer them. Then you will get real help toward your ultimate build.
