Is it just me or is there something odd about a competition where you make Cisco a billion dollars and all you get is a job. Gee, what a generous offer. The job title better include letters like C, E and O.

With a strong focus on the use of collaboration tools, the I-Prize competition aims to find IP-based innovations that can earn Cisco at least $1 billion over a five- to seven-year period. The contest was announced Wednesday at the opening of the company's Globalization Center East in Bangalore, India.

When I have an idea that may net a billion over 7 years, I'll put together a start-up and later sell out to Cisco (or anyone) for many many millions. Then I wont need Cisco's job. Or any other job. Ever. :D

What happens if they get 20 entries that only make them $900,000,000 each? "Sorry, you all lose, no job."

Yeah, this is a bit ridiculous. If I could make Cisco <Dr. Evil voice> one billion dollars</Dr. Evil voice>, I'd rather make even a fraction of that billion myself.
 
Wow what a great move for a company to make...

Head Guy: "Alright men, we need a cheap way to gather innovative new products, whats the plan?"

Person 1: "Sir, how about we hire some new talent from the colleges?"

Head Guy: "No I said cheap, you're fired."

Person 2: "Sir, how about we hold a contest for people to come up with ideas for us, and only offer the one who provides us with a lot of money a job."

Head Guy: "Brilliant, we'll offer anyone who makes us over a billion a job! And with all of the ideas flooding in, I'll have no use for any of you. You're all fired!"

How about this - come up with a solid way to make a measly 10 Mil, and I can almost promise you the venture capital required to do it. I'll even run the company for you......:D

So yah.... a job + 10 million in research and development moniez.
 
Why would I want to give someone that dumb a job? Keep them off the street where they might make someone else a billion $s I guess.
 
hahaha and all the ppl on my campus (sjsu) are like worshipping cisco just to get an internship

It would have been much cooler if they made the mark to about say 10 million, and then offered your name on their honorary wall, free certification training/testing, and 10% of all future net revenue relating to the product passed to you.
 
Here is a question, how do you know off the bat if a idea will make $1 billion in 5 - 7 years?

An idea might sound great but make almost no money, or an idea might sound stupid as hell, but make a great deal of money.

Do you think Sony went into both betamax and UMD and thought, these are going to be total failures lets do it anyway just to burn some money?
