Major slowdowns... just me?

I'm encountering the same kind of major slowdowns the website was suffering from back during the database problems. Is it just me? The site is very slow to display forums, thread lists, posts... etc.

Thanks

Hmmm... interesting!

For the record I am also using Firefox, latest and greatest. Right now it seems to be behaving for me. Ah well.

I have had some periods of lag and then it will go back to normal.

Mostly good but at times it slows to a crawl and sometimes stalls for a few minutes.

Fast for me but had 2-3 database timeouts in the last few days...

Slows down every so often but it usually just takes a refresh to take off again. Nothing major or annoying.

I have still seen nothing and been on WWAN for three days now.

We are adding another dedicated web server to HardForum and will be splitting off the search to a dedicated server as well.

Did you figure out what the problem was? Are we on the "new" server now?

It's a lot faster for me now, since earlier when it said db stuff be back in 15 minutes....

I cleaned up the tables, but I did not find anything that should have been wrong. Dunno. Please let me know if you guys see any errors today.

I have got a few page timeouts in the last day and it took about 1/2 a minute to submit a post just now.

It seems when I tried to report a post I got the DB error also.

An additional Web server is on the way and should fix the load issue that is causing the errors.

We went from a normal 2200 users to 1400 user to now 1800 users, so there are adjustments and tweaks that have to be made along the way. Namely we need a bit of help on the web side and that is on the way.

No errors but major slowdowns on and off. :(

Not sure if it's the cause for your slowdown, but for me pages load reasonably UNTIL I get a page with a NewEgg Holiday banner. Firefox goes non-responsive and CPU load goes to 100%.

Check to see if that is cause for your slow downs.

I'm not sure if this is what people are talking about, but every time I view this forum, the CPU usage starts to rise and my entire system starts bogging down. After few minutes, I check the task manage and it shows my CPU usage as near 100% for iexplore.exe. If I close the tab or window with the Hard forum on it, or just refresh the tab, the problem goes away, but it just comes back again a few minutes later, and it gets REALLY bad if I happen to have more than one Hard Forum window open.

Something on this forum is definitely causing massive CPU usage after a little while. It "might" have something to do with the banner ad, because I am currently noticing that the banner ad is not changing right now, and the CPU usage is not climbing.

Usually, the banner changes, but I'm not sure why it's static at the moment. I'm going to hit "preview post" right now and see what happens....

Okay -- the banner add is moving again, and the CPU has immediately started climbing. In the 60 seconds since I hit preview (which refreshed the window) it's already hitting the high 30's.

Thanks to anybody for looking into this,

Larry

Been noticing the slowdowns and high cpu usage too. But as of this writing, all is well.
Has something changed???

Okay guys, I think I found the culprit.
It is this Newegg add right here. The nasty reindeer are responsible...Seriousely.

If you do a refresh until that add shows up you'll see your cpu usage start to climb, and responsiveness goes down the tubes.

Hope this helps...

On my system, I don't think it's limited to just that particutlar ad. I appear to be seeing similar issues with some of the OTHER Newegg ads as well -- but the reindeer ad is definitely a bad one.

I went through about five or six adds I think, maybe four, but this was the only one affecting my system...

The exact same thing is happening to me on my computer. Starts out okay, then after a few minutes, starts using 100% cpu usage on my first core. Slows my system down, but it all goes away after I refresh or exit out of firefox and reload. Specs are in signature.

The forum is also making my CPU usage on both my computers max out. On one I am running Opera 9.24, and the other Opera 9.5alpha. If I close the tab that has Hardforum on it, my CPU and mem usage drop to normal levels. This has been going on for about a week. Both computers are running XP if that matters.

I've been having this happen too, but i thought this was a firefox related issues? There have been some posts in the General Software section about this, but no one seems to have any idea. It looks like its been happening since the latest firefox patch.

same issue on IE6 on my lappy, I disabled Active-X while I'm on the [H] - for now at least

Yep the reindeer are killing my 1.4ghz Pentium M laptop also. So much so that I'm gonna have to give hforums a break for a while since the whole system hangs for about 30-60 seconds each time I open a link with that ad, and it lasts until I can close that tab (IE7). Kyle said in another thread that he is reporting these performance issues to Newegg, so we probably don't need to continue reporting this issue.

I've got the same problem. It has only been happening over the last day or so.

Well, I have reached the end of my patience. The flash ad is removed. Hopefully they will let us know when they truly have it fixed this time.
