Mafia II

Fun Demo, although really short
took me a few tries to get used to engaging and disengaging the cover system,

some screens

graphics look nice

Haven't played the demo yet, just ran the benchmark inside the demo. When I minimise and even exit the demo my whole screen is very dark/dim. Anyone else experience this? No option but to restart PC...

yes plenty of people are reporting that and it seems to be an ATI issue.

I hope the main game doesn't do this! Bringing up the Vista/7 fullscreen menu (CTRL+ALT+DELETE) fixes this issue though.

Also, It appears you have to reload the game to disable/reenable AA and Ambient Occlusion. When running the benchmark and returning to options, whatever you changed these two settings to will revert to what they were prior to loading the demo.

One more thing I noticed. Enabling v-sync in game reduces my fps by 4!

I played the demo and tried PhysX, predictably the game is almost playable with a high end quad core CPU, however the total load while balanced well across all 4 cores, never exceeds about 50% usage.

PhysX could easily be playable on a good CPU but It's gimped again, just like Batman AA was

Its not gimped so much as it was never updated to work correctly on the CPU. Ageia did a piss poor job of it and Nvidia never bothered to fix their work.

Yup, it's a pile of shit, I don't know why the Mafia II developers invested in intergrating it at all, if they want a decent physics system that most of us can use then take a look at Ghostbusters, Red Faction Guerrilla, or Crysis, all have fantastic CPU based physics engines.

As long as Nvidia keep pulling this crap I'll be heavily bias towards ATI, it bugs the crap out of me.

Played demo at 1650x1080 everything on highest. Even tried PhysX at highest.

In the house it ran smooth but as soon as I got to the mission, slideshow with PhysX on.

Turn it to Med ran much better but not great, so going to turn it off.

Didn't play the first one, but the graphics are alot better than I thought I'd see.

Thinking of using my leftover 8800GT for a dedicated PhysX. Wonder if it will make a difference though with my specs. ?

I played the demo with PhysX on high, but will probably play the game with it set at Medium. The fabric of the overcoats alone makes PhysX worhwhile. When you see the trenchcoats without the PhysX fabric it just looks wrong somehow.

I'll leave this here......
