Mafia II

there are of course going to be a lot of similarities between mafia2 and gta4, it does many things right.

thats a good thing though, at this point mafia2 devs can see what works really well in gta4, implement those features, and expand on them.

One of the things that made Mafia such a good game is that it had a great flavor. You were totally immersed in the world, and there was such a strong character to the game itself. Its the reason why you kept wanting to play; you kept wanting to know where the next hit would take you.

Its like watching a good movie... you get completely dunked in the world flavor.

I'm REALLY looking forward to Mafia II, as long as it brings a new great world and flavor.

Totally agree! Mafia had a excellent story and you really felt immersed in the city. The atmosphere and music really made this game great. I actually preferred this game over gta3.

That is blasphemy, absolute blasphemy :( Mafia is a 5 star movie hidden behind a game, GTA4 is a cheap excuse to shoot at cops

GTAIV is a great game in its own right. Have you even played it for any appreciable amount of time? Somehow I seriously doubt it.

Mafia is certainly a great game as well and had some strengths and weaknesses of its own different from the GTA series.

I certainly expect Mafia 2 to be another great game but I'm sure it will have its own set of strengths and weaknesses as well.

in that site, we can see that Amazon says Mafia II will be released on October 31, 2008 for XBOX 360. The price will be $59.99.

heck i'll buy a Xbox 360 only for that game :)
i'm still waiting for the PC version of GTA4 though

No it´s actually GTA IV that is more like Mafia. Mafia and GTA 3 was developed in the same time independent from eachother. Rockstar is being a bit more serious with GTA IV like Mafia. Offering drive by shootings like mafia. And a bit more realistic car handling like Mafia. And working 3rd person shooter controls like Mafia ;).

But really no they aren´t very similar to eachother overall that they are both letting you play in an entire city doesn´t make them the same game.

hopefully the cops are going to be more realistic in this one and they get rid of speeding tickets. just trying to get from point A to B killed the original for me, so annoying. getting stopped every 2 blocks for speeding is not fun, especially when you have timed missions, and you couldn't outrun their pos shitbox no matter what supercar you were driving.

and they better have redone the gun fighting too, holy crap did it suck in so many ways.

I hope they keep in speeding, etc.

Having to watch traffic laws made the times when you HAD to break them in order to complete a mission all the more intense and fun.

Speeding done through a major highway shouldn't be seen as a "normal" thing to do with no npc's caring or giving a hoot about it, then you end up turning the speed/high speed chases into a monotonus everyday thing and end up making them trivial, like in GTA, you have no sense of suspense when you're going fast down a highway because no one cares about it and it's ok to do.

This is awesome! I didn't know they were making this. I really enjoyed Mafia and was hoping they would come out with a follow-up. WooHoo!

these are action titles not simulations. do sim driving games even exist? probably not a huge market for players who like to pretend they're driving stolen cars under real motor vehicle laws. it just made missions tedious for me, not any more realistic or suspenseful. that's the whole point of these design decisions, how real do you want to make it and still be fun. I think GTA makes more sense, if you crash into or shoot at a squad car then they give chase. even then you have a chance of getting away, who the hell wants to stop and pay for a traffic ticket in a video game?? whatever floats your boat I guess.

now that I think about it, in mafia I remember this trick where you could turn a corner and hop out, then the cops would forget who they were chasing since you were no longer behind the wheel, so I suppose they failed at that too.

waaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh.....

It was as simple as turning on the speed limiter. The whole point was you were not supposed to drive around the city at insane speeds. I will admit it could have had better implementation but for the time period it was pretty neat. I also never had problems outrunning the cops but that is just me I guess.

I enjoyed the whole game, including the "speeding tickets". It added that extra bit of flavor that kept the game immersive for me. You really felt a part of the city.

I'm definately looking forward to Mafia2. :D

I agree. I remember people saying that Mafia 1 was a knockoff the GTA series. GTA has always been fun, but the story does not even compare to Mafia. I loved Mafia 1, story was simply awesome. Aside from story, visuals were better, and missions were top notch. I felt as if I was there every step of the way.

Oh my god, I was skeptical at first, THIS LOOKS AWESOME!!!

I am so happy it is mainly target at PC's, when will this come out?

I want that MG42!

Cant wait for it! Gonna play the original mafia to refresh my memory.. it's going to be sweet.

Agreed.

The first was one of the best, if not the best FPS I've ever played, and I've pretty much played them all.

Like a fine role play game.

Mark me down as a sale for this one when it's released, I'll be at the store on day one.

All that's been officially said is "fall 2009." The current rumor for North America is October-ish.

Don't forget to see Lucas from time to time! He works non stop.

What a wonderful atmosphere the game has, don't you agree?

Yeah I just got passed a mission and had a chance to go see him. Going to do that when I go back to the game.

Very much so. Its very unique and its surprising how well the gameplay still stands up today.
