I just installed the demo and what can I say, are you kiddin me ! Not even playable with half the eye candy. This is with an i7 930 OC to 4 Ghz, latest AMD drivers and 6 gigs of RAM.

The Way It's Meant to be Played - nVidia.

The last part has to be whispered, though. :(

EDIT: at what resolution? My single HD5870 handles max settings (AA, but no Physx at all) at 1080p just fine.

A month or so from now Ati will have fixed dual gpu in that game, by adding a profile for it.. It's performance will come up then. It is sort of accepted as fact these days that many games just do not work well out of the box with crossfire til the next driver revision or two.

I wonder if the OP has tried renaming the game's .exe to "AFR-FriendlyD3D.exe". That used to work well about 85% of the time for me when I still bothered with multi gpu.

edit: On a single 5870 with an i7 920 @ 3.8Ghz, I am getting 44Fps average in the demo's bench @ 1920x1200 all settings high, except physx, with AA on. With crossfire working properly, a 4870x2 should prolly be in the same ballpark give or take.

Here are my results from my secondary rig using a 5770 clocked at 950/1300:

Same settings as your except AA is off. When I tried to turn on AA in the game it ever took, it went back to no AA.

IIRC a 5770 and a single 4870 are roughly equivalent in performance so it would appear as what you are thinking and jeremyshaw is true about CF not working at the moment.

no, 5750 is far more worse than a 4890.

even 5770 barely match a 4870....

Got my 5's and 7's mixed up!

What I was TRYING to say is that a 5770 and 4870 are about equal and with my OC on the 5770 it should be very much even or a little ahead of a stock 4870.

I get 42FPS in benchmark at 1920x1200, all maxed (no AA, no physX). Runs just fine.

Just as I thought, exactly the same as my oc'ed 5770 with a bit slower CPU. Melon, try running with no AA and see what you get.

Results with 5850:

Eyefinity looks awesome and even when the benchmark says I'm at 20fps, the actual game usually runs at a steady 30fps.

Man those eyefinity pics are sick! I cannot wait til a decent f@H ati client is released so I can join the Red team again!

Yeah I think a D rating is still playable in the demo, we'll see about the actual game. Is your 5850 a stock speeds? The 5770 oc'ed is only about 12% of from you, thought it would be a little more than that but the OC actually was pretty effective, never OC'ed the 5770, performs better then I would have thought.

With my Core i7, GTX 480 + GTX 275 (Physx), I manage to get around 44FPS with everything turned up high during the demo. The benchmark I will average around the low 30s!!

Sounds like this benchmark is INTENTIONALLY high balling it which is good but yeah, seeing the D Rating and the message "No PhysX for you!" is a little annoying when the game, the demo at least it running just fine. I hope that the full game is a little more accurate, not that it really matters if the game runs fine, it just bugs me.

UPDATE!
Today I received my XFX 5870 from Newegg and put it right next to my Sapphire 5850 for some sweet crossfireX testing!

I managed to score this at 6048 x 1080 in Mafia demo. All settings maxed, no AA:

With AA enabled I got 25fps.
