Hello all,
After plugging in a fire-wire cable into my new macbook pro the laptop shut down immediately. Probably was a fault firewire cable and caused a short.

So now the problem is the battery seems not to be working, the laptop boots up fine and runs while the power adapter plugged in, however as soon as i pull out the power cable it shuts off right away. The icon on the menu bar says "not charging" however the system profiler says the battery is good and is at 70%.

I have tried the SMC/PRAM resets with no luck. It is still under warranty, do you think apple would fix it? Probably going to take it to the store this weekend. Also any other ideas of how to fix this?

if its still under warranty then take it in. Don't mess with it yourself unless you know what you are doing. Worst case they say no, its this this and this thats broken and will cost $500, and then you know whats wrong and can buy parts/fix yourself.

Don't mention plugging anything in, just say it died out of nowhere.

Kk Thanks for the replies.
So taking it in and praying that they do it for free ><

Well in fact it is all good now.
Since I bought the laptop from amazon I just asked for a replacement and it is coming this week :D

Why I buy from amazon no tax + great service.

You probably fried a battery circuit. The battery is detected, but won't charge. Probably the PWM circuitry was fried.
