i bought the M2N32-SLI deluxe great board only thing is it only has support for one ide cable and i have 2 ata hard drives and 2 nice dvd burners that im robbing from my old rig, so whats the best way to use these drives, an adapter for sata to ata or an add on card? from what i seen u take a risk with an adapter. links are always a PLUS.

thanks in advance from a Hard Forums Newb

I have an M2N32 and the lack of a 2nd IDE socket is a pain.

I went with my

optical drives on the IDE socket
1 HDD on a PCI raid controller
1 HDD on a SATA > PATA adaptor
1 new HDD on a SATA cable.

The reason for the new SATA drive is that newer drives support faster transfers and also some support command queuing to speed up multiple access requests.

For what you are doing I may suggest getting a cheap raid card as this will be more reliable than SATA>PATA adaptors (had problems with the SATA > PATA adaptors, nVidia raid and installing Vista).

IDE controller cards aren't that expensive. Maybe $30-40. The SATA adapters are like $15 apiece anyway.

alright thats what i was thinking i was planning on gettin a sata HD but i didn't want to lose 600 gigs or 2 90 dollar dvd drives thanks for the help
