what is your budget?

What OS are you running?

don't waste time (unless you don't have enough cash) go straight to PCIe NVMe based M.2 like Samsung 950 Pro, 960 pro, or 960 Evo.

If your short on cash then go to for Crucial MX300.

I would never buy sandisk SSD.

Hello! Okay, to put it succinctly when you're talking about M.2 slots and SSDs, they can either be SATA type, which use the SATA controller and thus are bound by the same transfer limits (ie 6gbps) as if you connected any old SATAIII drive with an old fashioned SATA cable. However, PCIe NVMe SSDs has access to the MUCH faster PCIe bus and NVMe support means that your M.2 slot can provide that hugely faster bus. If your motherboard has a M.2 slot with PCIE NVMe support (which it does) , you definitely want a NVMe compatible SSD!

Now, I would NOT suggest buying any of the drives listed. Both of them are SATA interface only drives, so you won't be able to get NVMe speed. There are also some other factors that lead to them being older generation and budget drives. Ultimately, I think it comes down to what you're willing to spend and your size necessities.

Personally, I woulds suggest that right now the best brand of SSD, especially NVMe M.2, is Samsung! They use 3D-style "V-NAND" unlike most other SSD manufacturer, meaning that the way the NAND chips itself are layered vertically as well which provides a number of benefits. Better yet, Samsung just came out with a brand new refresh for their M.2 SSD line which is faster than ever and have the brand new Polaris controller! I suggest you look into the following...

http://www.samsung.com/us/computing...ate-drives/ssd-960-pro-m-2-512gb-mz-v6p512bw/ - Samsung 960 Pro. The new king of the hill is the fastest, uses 3D MLC NAND, and has a longer warranty. The only downside is price. Comes in 512, 1TB and 2TB .

http://www.samsung.com/us/computing...ate-drives/ssd-960-evo-m-2-250gb-mz-v6e250bw/ - Samsung 960 EVO. This is probably one of the best bargains you'll be able to find. You get something that is almost to 960 Pro level ( Uses 3D-TLC instead of MLC, little shorter warranty etc) for a LOT cheaper. Comes in 250, 512, 1TB. 250 is down to the same price as the ones you were linking and will be MASSIVELY faster. Even the 512 isn't too expensive these days.

Finally, there is the "older generation" Samsung 950 Pro. These can be found on Amazon, Newegg etc, whereas the 960 Pro and Evo may not yet be there because they're so new.. If you can get them on a really, really good price it may be worthwhile, but given that the 960 EVO is now on the scene at typical retail prices its better to buy the 960 series.

Hope this helps a bit.

The 950 Pro's are still great drives, and are stupidly fast.

I never realized how fast a computer can boot or open programs until I built my new system with one. ...I had thought my old SCSI 160 10K rpm quad drive RAID 0 arrays were fast - nope, not against a single 950Pro.
