Lower temps with a second rad?

I have the Apex kit all hooked up in an external box right now. This is cooling my rig in my sig. My question is will a second rad help lower my temps, or something else?
2.7Ghz at 1.6v = 35cidle 41cload (21c room temp)
While I'm at it will I be able to add a second Storm block to my loop without killing the flow?
I currently only have the Apex kit (no additional blocks)
 
A second raidator might lower your temps a little, but not as much as you might think. When I added the second heater core to my setup it only dropped my overall load temp 2c at the max. You'll have to decide if the added radiator is worth it to you.

As for a second Storm block, that's something I haven't tried, as it is you're only pushing around 90GPH through your system the way the kit was shipped and a second Storm block will reduce that even further. I'm no math wiz, so someone else will have to figure the flow out for you, after all, I only finished 3rd grade................ :D
 
DFI boards report their temps high, how high exactly, I don't know but my room temp is about what you's is and my load isn't much lower, maybe 3c, and I'm running dual Bonni heater cores..............;) I'd be you real temps are somewhat lower than what you think..........:) You can never trust your bios to report the temps correctly, not from one maker to another or even between like modles of MoBos.
But you will see a drop in temps................how much will be anyones guess.
 
90gph is WAY more then you need, adding the block won't have a devastating effect. Most likely the only thing you'll notice is one less fan in your system and a cooler component.

As for the 2nd rad, it depends on where you put it in the loop. Put it between two hot components, like an overclocked GPU/NB and an overclocked CPU and you may see a decent drop. Put it immediately before/after your current rad and you may see almost no benefit. Mostly it depends on how efficient your current rad is and if you're nearing its limit in watts dissipated, and thats when you'll see the biggest benefit of a 2nd rad.

It will work, just not as well, the higher the flow, the better the Storm works. And the Storm is a highly restrictive block, so if you want the max out of the block, keep the flow as high as you can.
 
o didnt think to add I also do not have a fan shroud on the dual 120mm radiator, should I get one? Where could I get one for cheap (leaning towards something that looks good over the do it yourself out of plasticware) or would I be able to use 2 single 120mm fan shrouds?
 
A fan shroud would be a good idea and if nothing else would help to lower the noise level of the fans. I haven't tried a shroud on the APEX system yet as I haven seen one that's been made for the new radiator. But as a general rule, moving the fans out and away from the radiator helps eliminate the dead zone under the fans center hub resulting in better air flow and more surface area that's getting the cooling air from the fans.
 
Perhaps I am missing something, but why would you need two storm waterblocks for one procssor?
 
I was thinking the same thing, but maybe he's going to get a dual processor board or try and cool 2 PC's with the one unit........... :D
 
heh, it would be for 2 computers. My second computer is an AMD Athlon XP Mobile 2400+ OCed to 2.4Ghz (runs around 49c idle... on a hot day). Its in a crappy case so I'm at the point of spending money on a new Lian Li for my main rig (maybe btx) and demote my main case to my second rig or just buy another rad/block or another wcing setup for it. Getting tired of the vantec tornado in my second rig :( when people play games on it, have to turn to full blast so it stays under 60c full load.

Noise to me is not really a big issue the move from 5 case fans on high (about 50 db each) to WCing and 3 fans on low (around 20-30db each) and the 120mm fans are near silent to me cause they arent high pitched.
 
I've seen people cool several computers from a central unit before, but the blocks were less restrictive and they were using much larger pumps................. :eek:
 
You would probably be better off just getting a new kit. If you dont use the 2nd computer as much, just set up a lesser loop. Get a Swiftech MCW6002 for $40, a single 120mm rad for $35, and an eheim pump for $50. Throw in tubes, additives, t line, fill abd blead kit ect, and your still looking at under $200 for a system that should cool just fine.
