hey everyone, the rig details are in the sig but here is my problem. The other day i installed vista buisness 64 for the first time and decided to run the "windows experience index", where it basically scans your computer and gives it a score based on the lowest value based on your proc, mem, gfx, gaming gfx, and HDD. I score and 5.8 or 5.9 in all of them expect ram, i score a 4.8 :mad:

Im using......

2x2gb of corsair xms2 pc2-6400 running at 400mhz with 5-5-5-18 timings. It's also single channel, any thoughts?
 
Thought #1: Your single-channel is causing that completely, and with that RAM you should be able to tighten up the timings.

Thought #2: The Vista score means absolutely nothing, don't worry about it.
 
alright, what sorta timings do you recommend i set, I'm not the most knowledgeable when it comes to ram.
 
check your motherboard manual for intructions on placing the ram modules correctly for dual channel operation.

try 4/4/4/12 timings

if you are still unhappy with results make a deeper research and find a way to put Trd on 5. (check my post on Trd manipulation on this forum)

This depends on which RAM you have. Can you list ALL of the information from the stickers on the modules?
 
OK here is a list of all the information i can get on my modules, not sure what will help and what wont.

Here is information from the package it came with .....

twin2x2048-6400C5 G

for the timmings table it has 2 colums that read as follows

Frequency = 270 | 400
Cas # latency= 4.0 | 5.0
Ras# to Cas#= 4.0 | 5.0
Ras# Precharge = 4.0 | 5.0
tras = 13 | 18
trc= 15 | 22
voltage = 1.8 | 1.8


As far as my motherboard goes at enabling dual channel mode i cant find anything on the subject, in fact the back of the mobo box says supports single channel DDR2 800. As it is an mATX board and only has 2 ram slots, its shows the ram above as being in slots 1 and 3 even tho there are only 2 slots, not sure if thats anything important or not. According to reviews its a damn solid board among other mATX boards when it comes to performance, any comments, thoughts, or recommendations are greatly appreciated
 
if you boot from a memtest.org cd, it will tell you the speed of the memory, I have some 6400 ram, and it runs around 3000MB/sec in single channel, and around 4500MB/Sec in dual channel.

You could probably leave your timings alone, and just move one of the dimms to another slot to get it in dual channel mode -ie if you are in slot 1+2, try 1+3 instead.

download a .iso file from memtest.org and burn to a CD, then boot from that to get your MB/Sec. Also a good idea to let it run for 24 hours and validate that all your ram is good.
 
1 ) there are only 2 slots for memory...not 4 so its just slots 1 and 2 but they read as 1 and 3 in cpuz

2) my mobo, as stated in the sig is a Biostar mATX TF7150-M7 630i .....7 series graphics onboard with the 630i chipset
 
That motherboard only runs in single channel, no dual channel.

sorry, missed it.

The specs you give are erroneous, the cpu is running at 300x9 and the ram at 750mhz, or, the cpu is 320x9 and the ram is 800mhz.


When I had the board as my daily computer, I think I had it @ 325x9 or 2.925
I was using corsair 2X1gb Xms-6400 (not the c4 version.) Manually set the voltage to the ram, the cpu is fine right where it is.
 
Try memset, its a program that reads ALL the memory timings and in a few mobo even allow changes on the fly.

I am starting to believe that your mobo really cant do duall channel DDR2- thats a 10% minus on memory performance, but there is still room for improved timings.

DDR2 800 CAS5 is way too much even for crap memory, surely you can do better.

if you can reach 2,7Ghz you could try to copy my settings (but they are for 2,65Ghz with a 9x multiplier):

FSB-295
divider1:1
memory 295Mhz
CAS 3
RAS to CAS delay 3
RAS precharge 3
Precharge delay 9
page close idle time 16T
refresh cycle time 28
Trd 4 (read delay)--most important memo timing, usually CAS related-if you cant manipulate Trd directly most of the lower CAS benefits come actually from lower Trd.
write to precharge command 10
write to read command 8
write-read turnaround clocks 5
read-write turnaroud clocks 8
read to precharge 4
write-write turnaround clocks 6
precharge to precharge delay 1

all the above numbers given by memset!

even if you cant manipulate Trd to 4 i expect less than 65ns of memory latency on Everest.
 
i tried 4/4/4/12 and had serious boot issues...i guess im just gonna keep away from the ram thing for now.
